Trade Deadline Chatter

The Nuggets quietly have one of the worst cap sheets in the league. They’re basically capped out for both 2014-15 and 2015-16, and every player outside of Ty Lawson and possibly Wilson Chandler has declined in value because of poor play or injury. Denver doesn’t appear ready to hit the reset button completely, and Tim Connelly, the team’s well-regarded new GM, is still getting a feel for what he has here. But the Nuggets should consider deals that restore some salary normalcy,8 even it costs them Chandler and/or sends them plummeting down the standings....

http://grantland.com/features/the-nba-swap-meet/

When it comes to the national media I don't know of anyone better than Zach Lowe when it comes to a little Nuggets insight.

Not looking for the Nuggets to do anything drastic but Zach is right, we're capped out the next two years with a declining roster. I'm all for developing the younger players and taking some losses along the way but if we're going to lose we might as well shuffle the deck and free up cap space. Most of the buyers don't have desirable picks to trade so we should shoot for expiring contracts.

TOA I'll withold from blasting TC and see what he does or doesn't do in the next 10 days.

Wiz covet Dre Miller apparently. Don't see getting much from them other than expiring contracts

The Wizards have the most intriguing pieces of the teams interested in Andre.

*If the Nuggets are set on trading Faried, you might as well trade Miller to the Wizards for Vesely and Glen Rice Jr.

Vesely has a ton of size for a PF and is only a few years removed from a draft, where everyone praised his star potential. If he doesn't work out, you just let him go and you still get Glen Rice Jr. while saving $4 million in cap for next year.

Look, all I want to see is less of a headache. I get that this team won't be playoff-ready with multiple injuries -but those gambles that were made in the last trade have not paid off and they are not being supported by healthy talent on the team any longer.

What I mean by being supported is there were a few guesses involved that required a mostly healthy roster to prove or disprove. No way in hell would these players be put together to form a team by themselves under its current construction.

Their justifications were based solely on McGee being there, Gallo coming along mid season, and Iggy leaving a gap to be filled that a similarly physically built Nate Robinson could somewhat cover.

I would like to keep Faried for the purposes of being a 6th man next season and a backup PF to grab loads of offensive boards. That is a clear description of what we need him for.....or have we forgotten what a shambles our offensive rebounding was pre-Birdman? Or pre-Reggie Evans if you want to go there. Faried is our Najera, Birdman, and Reggie all rolled into one (minus the Kaman incident). Holding onto him guarantees energy on the bench and huge rebound totals which give us Portland-like opportunities to shoot the ball.

I can't say the same about Hickson. If we keep Hickson, he's going to need to be a part of the offense to a fault. I say he had his run with LeBron and hasn't proven himself on his own out there. At least Faried is young and shows a little more defensive orientation.

It depends on what the FO wants to accomplish at this trade deadline. Do they want to fill the holes we have due to injuries and attempt to salvage the season or make a bigger move that's geared towards the future?

We always say how this roster doesn't fit what Shaw wants to do but never get into specifics. I think it's mainly the frontcourt that needs to be overhauled. Faried could be good as a 3rd big off the bench but he still doesn't have the skill-set for Shaw's system and I don't see how we can get a better starting PF without trading him. I'm ready to cut our losses and dump McGee too. I'm sick of waiting around to find out who he is as a 30mpg starter. We need to find a defensive anchor -our Roy Hibbert, so to speak-, and go from there. That's why I wouldn't mind going after Sanders.

I feel like Greg Monroe is the guy we should go after. Not sure its possible and I have also heard some people question his defense, which makes me scared of bringing in another Big that can't play defense, but he would give us the low post threat that we need. Some sort of package including Wilson Chandler and Faried or Mozgov would be nice.

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/knicks ... aried-deal

ESPN.com's Marc Stein has reported a couple of very interesting trade rumblings involving the New York Knicks over on his blog, Stein Line Live (a must-read for NBA fans).

1. The Knicks, Stein writes, have tried to re-engage the Denver Nuggets on a deal centered around Iman Shumpert for Kenneth Faried. Stein writes that Denver has yet to show interest.

The holdup? The Nuggets would like to unload a long-term contract and the Knicks have no interest in taking on long-term money.

I'm assuming, if there is any truth to this, that the players you want to get rid of are Mcgee, JJ Hickson, or Foye.
I don't want any of those guys, I don't even want Faried. Is there any other long contract(past 2015) that you think your FO would consider in a Faried trade? I personally want Wilson---but I doubt that.

Unless the Knicks are trading Melo (and I even doubt we would want Melo because he wouldn't extend here) or future 1st round draft picks, there isn't anything Denver needs from New York.

Hell we need a SG, and Foye is a better player than Shumpert.

Pickaxe you took it back with the Najera and Reggie references.

I like that the rumor mill suggests that the Nuggets are trying to unload some of their long-term contracts. Highly doubt Mcgee could be pawned off but losing JJ and/or Foye for lower priced or expiring replacements would be ideal. Don't want to see Chandler go but he's probably the most desired of the three. No point in sucking and being capped out the next two seasons. There are only 32 games left, I say you blow it up.

Happened to be browsing the web and caught TC on the FAN in Denver this morning. I'll try to provide a link. Didn't sound like it was a given that a trade will happen by the deadline. As is normally the case nothing earth-shattering was revealed but he did say..

1. No one on this team is untouchable
2. He doesn't see much of a "core" with this team and it's not currently constructed to win a championship
3. Spends a lot of time on the phone offering and receiving deals
4. The record primarily falls on the injuries, doesn't necessarily think the team needs to get worse in order to get better.
5. Still looking into all the possibilities for Dre
6. Mcgee may have to look at something other than rest to heal his leg

At the end of the day actions speak louder than words...

I caught that interview today as well. I was a bit more optimistic about the future after hearing this interview.

I applauded him when they asked him that, at full strength can this team contend? TC's answer was No. While it's obvious to us, it's nice to hear he's not a delusional GM.

He also said they will have an announcement next week about McGee, which is almost certainly that he is out for the season.

I also did like how TC said that no one is untouchable.

Once again, actions do speak louder than words but at least he realizes he needs to make some significant moves.

*I wasn't offering Faried for Vesely/Glen Rice Jr lol it was Andre Miller for Vesely/Glen Rice Jr.

Well, if we vocalize that we're just doing a single upgrade now and doing more at the draft, then I'm fine with that. I just don't want 3 months of wasted time when the team could be more actively working toward goals.

As for the quality of the team I just don't want to see 40 point deficits in a loss. 20 point losses every once in a while is understandable. When it gets to 40 then I'm starting to think no one's really working on anything they're just biding time until draft day.

You know....just work on being a team that denies the other team scoring opportunities and does it at almost any cost. Be the Manu Ginobli in the boot. Make it hurt to try to score on the Nuggets.

Something.

Just no more 40 point losses. Lets see a battle. 30 more losses, all lost by 3 points or less. That would be progress.

Would you guys be interested in a trade for JJ Barea?

Denver would get a replacement for Nate Robinson's spark plug type skills and a PG with experience.

The Wolves would get a veteran in Miller that would bring more structure to the Wolves 2nd unit and keep it similar to the starters with Rubio.

Based on the article posted by gratland I assume a goal would be to save money for next year? From Torontos point of view I've liked the fit of Chandler either off the bench or in our starting lineup.

Salmons & Hansbrough have 1 million guaranteed deals next year. You can waive them before the 29th of June.

So I'll pose this question for you guys. What asset along with those contracts gets us Chandler alone and i doubt you'd be interested but Mozgov as well? Ross won't be dealt so I'm thinking more along the lines of a future pick
