Nurkic starting center before end of season?

Post#1 » by JerrySloan » Fri Jan 2, 2015 10:05 pm

Supposedly rumors continue regarding the Cavs interest in trading for Mozgov.

If the Nugz "braintrust" decides that he has more than reached his ceiling and they can get whatever appeals to them from Cleveland, can you see them giving JN 28-30 MPG and playing Hickson as backup?

I can see him as a 15/10/2 guy right now since his teammates already seem to be more willing to give him the ball in scoring territory than they do for Faried.

I certainly believe that he has a bigger upside than Mozgov and likely could develop into a better overall player than Gortat and a number of other current 28-30 MPG centers.

Depends on if can learn to play without committing fouls, that's his biggets drawback. If he overcomes that, then I have less apprehension about trading Mozzie and avoiding the nightmares of Hickson playoing big (any) minutes

I understand your concern but so much depends on the officials. Last night's game was very physical and Nurkic was only called for 1 foul. With another set of refs, I could easily have seen him being called for 3 or 4.

Still, I think he is a very smart, mature guy for a 20 year old who will figure it out quickly.

Not like I don't think he won't be starting soon, within the next 45 days is the trade deadline so we'll see how much faith the FO has in Nurkic soon.

If we're going to trade Mosgov to the Cavs, I would want Tristan Thompson as part of the return. We need a full-sized PF.

Thompson is ending his rookie contract and is going to want to get paid and we just paid Faried. Also, TT would be a backup here. Now if we were to use him as a trade asset I could see that...

Nurkic had another double-double along with 5 blocks.....rookie is looking better than Mozgov right now.

Shaw mentioned that is Jusuf could keep his fouls limited he'd receive more playing time. He kept Gasol in check all night.

id want a 3 team trade.. dont see anything cavs could offer that would make us want to trade a decent center on a good contract, except maybe waiters but isnt a need with AAA and harris

In my perfect little world, I'd find a way to bring in Thompson while moving Faried while he still has value.

Not sure why you'd want that, Faried is like twice the player Thompson is.

You guys totally robbed the Bulls and stole Nurkic with the 16th pick. This big kid is going to be a starting C for a long time. Great move on draft day.

Since his meeting with Shaw Faried has been a double-double machine. Faried is definitely a better player than TT IMO. The only drawback to Faried is he needs to work on his man-on D and he only 6-8, small for a PF

That's exactly my problem with Faried. I love the guy, I love his energy, but come playoff time (assuming you make the playoffs), toughness, size, man-to-man defense and interior defense are critical at PF. And there's no way he's even 6'8".

Well, considering that he's already playing against the guys he'd meet if they were in the playoffs, he's doing a really good job at it.

Is JR Smith for Mozgov a possibility?
