Joffrey

Post#1 » by josh_nuggets » Wed Feb 4, 2015 3:01 am

The Nuggets are working on a deal to sign 6’11” forward Joffrey Lauvergne, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports (Twitter link). Lauvergne had cut ties earlier today with Khimki Moscow, his Russian team, David Pick of Eurobasket.com reports (Twitter link). The Nuggets currently have 14 players on their roster, so no corresponding roster move would be required in order to ink Lauvergne.

The 23-year-old Frenchman was originally selected by the Grizzlies with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. Lauvergne was subsequently dealt to the Nuggets, along with Darrell Arthur, for Kosta Koufos.

Lauvergne was averaging 7.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 18.1 minutes per game for Khimki Moscow this season. His career numbers overseas are 9.5 PPG, 6.4 RPG, and 1.0 APG. His career slash line is .506/.293/.717.

I'd like to think this is a precursor to a trade dumping JJ and Javale, because otherwise, what's the point of bringing Joffrey over here just to sit on the bench? But who the **** knows anymore with this team.

His tenacity. He likes to get up in your face. Which, coupled with a trade sending JJ away could be a very very good thing.

I'd definitely like to see what Lauvergne can bring to the NBA, let alone the Nuggets

Interesting. Hopefully he can push Arthur to the end of the bench.

idk that bringing King J into this mess would be a productive way to begin his NBA career.

Considering the one thing we need the team to do is to have bounce back that doesn't take an entire quarter to kick in.....a la crappy guts in a automobile.......Let's put this in the vehicle and see if the attitude doesn't change.

I'm all for someone not named Faried or Hickson in the 4 starting spot. Just to reset the conversation.

Rumor has it TOR is looking at Faried, but doubt they'd want to give up more than expirings, and I'm not in for that. However with JL coming on board next week, it could make this more plausible

I'm all for bringing Joffrey over and seeing what we have in him. But he's young and was a second round pick, and I think it's a little crazy to say "let's trade Faried and let him start." What if he sucks? I'd still want to have Faried.

And I still don't get the huge desire to trade Faried. We need to get rid of Shaw. Look how Faried performed for Team USA when he had the right coaches and teammates surrounding him. Plus, even though his new contract seems like a lot of money, it's gonna be a mid-level amount for a big man in a year or two when the salary cap goes way up (because we know big guys get big $$).

Bring Joffrey over? Yes.
Get rid of JJ? Yes.
Get rid of McGee? Yeah.
Get rid of Faried? No.

Wasn't suggesting that BECAUSE Joffery is coming over we should green light trading Faried, but we still are looking to rebuild. If the right deal comes along for Faried, JL would make it easier to accept, that's all. But only if the deal is on OWN terms.....

I love Faried - you can't help but love the guy - but the kid is only really about 6'6", he's not a terribly good defender, and he doesn't/can't protect the rim. Not that Joffrey is the answer over Faried (he could be a good role player), but I'd much prefer strength, size and defense inside.

The only guy on this roster I would protect is Nurkic, at least until we really know what we have with him.

To say Faried has 0 value is a waste of everyone's time. We've seen him at his best and know we've had far worse players added to the team for rebounding help. How he's responding to this adversity is a little telling though. You may not like how he is being played, but it would be reasonable to say he could be at least working on expanding his skillset and setting personal standards, maybe going for a double double every night.

Tbh Hickson ever being there in the 1st place is what caused there to be any sort of anxiety about Faried's development. I would rather have opted for Faried not having to compete for minutes with a guy that's been to the Conf. Finals and has no interest in outhustling Faried to prove anything. That's the worst competition in the world.

If we had had another PF to compete alongside Faried this would be a much healthier situation.

*ahem* Joffrey

I've noticed you guys aren't to keen on JJ - is it just a matter of Shaw over/mis-utlizing him, or is he actually a bad player?

He could be a really useful player on the right team. Great in the PnR, great offensive rebounder. Struggle defensively (no rim protection) and not the greatest defensive rebounder

his faults could easily be hidden on the right team (not the current nuggets)

i would keep JJ if we somehow trade Faried. at least until Joffrey shows how great he is

Keep JJ? If Joffrey is as you say he is, that would be doubling down on Hickson.

Luckily, he is not as you say he is.

In a hostile environment such as the one Faried is in, his youth is probably getting to him a little bit. I hate it when we get perfect role-players, have them used to fill gaps (as when Gallo & McGee were out), and then we can't somehow just strategize to fit Kenneth back into his most helpful role and not put so much high expectation on him. I really love his energy, but you are right it must be used for his specialty. We're not trying to recreate Charles Barkley in him.

Joffrey would be excellent as a much stronger player alternating with Faried, and much stronger mentally than Hickson is. Even if Hickson could compete with Joffrey for minutes, fact is Joffrey is fresh and Hickson isn't. At the very least you have a clean slate.
