Nikola Jokic

Post#1 » by skywalker33 » Fri May 8, 2015 2:26 am

To nobody's surprise, the Nuggets are expected to sign Nikola Jokic to see how he plays against NBA-caliber players. Not sure whether he comes over just for the Summer League or next season, but it will be interesting to see him play. He's looking for a long-term contract, 3+ years, gotta think he'll get it.

No word of Foye yet. Hopefully we decline his option.

The number that pops out to me is the 3.5 assists a game, may be a smart kid.

But does 253 pounds translate to "standard Euro league slow big"?

Hopefully jokic stands out in vegas. If foye is on the roster for next season, add that to our gm's long list of fuuck ups

Jokic will be a standout in the SL, no doubt in my mind. As for Foye, he did provide a great veteran leadership presence for our locker room, he'll probably be let go this off season IMO.

It will be an interesting dichotomy at the Center position next year. Nurkic is a bigger, stronger inside threat. Nurkic is athletic but raw. Jokic is lighter, has a sweet shooting stroke, and is a bit more cerebral than Nurkic. He'll be a stretch 5 which seems like that would benefit Lauvergne's brute force game. Add in Wilson Chandler's games and a 2nd unit front line looks like it has the makings of a Nuggets strength, I look forward to seeing what next season will bring.

Seems Mudiay and Jokic have some familiarity together

Emmanuel Mudiay and Nikola Jokic were exceptional during the competitive portion of practice, guiding their team to a 44-41 victory. Mudiay, who had a couple of great moments running the pick and roll yesterday, did most of his damage in transition today, but continued to flash a knack for making plays in the two man game in the half court. Mudiay's decision making and consistency have left something to be desired at times throughout his career, but this was a very steady performance for the SMU commit, as he made sound decisions with the ball for the most part, and flashed the court vision and explosiveness that makes him one of the most intriguing prospects in the incoming freshman class early and often.

He looks pretty good. Nice footwork and passing vision. Him and Mudiay have some nice chemistry, it would be great to pair them up.

Nurkić and Jokić played in same league.

Nurkić in his last season before NBA: 11.7 points 5. 7 rebounds

Jokić in this season: 15.4 points 9.3 rebounds

But have on mind that Nurkić played for Cedevita which is a title contender while Jokić played for Mega, team without ambitions. It's difference like playing for San Antonio and playing for Philadelphia.

So it's possible he could play the 4.

Since we're rebuilding anyway, I'd love to see him there and a trade for a high draft pick using Faried.

I can see Nurkic and Jokic being a good pair long term, but I am and have always been against the idea that you hand a starting job to anybody especially a rookie. So unless the deal makes sense to trade Faried or anybody else on the team then I would hold off until you see what you have with a returning Joffrey and Jokic.

Happy to see we're not regressing on keeping size. Our bigs outperforming visiting bigs will always be an advantage for us.

Article on Jokic's transition and summer league.
"It's different, very different," Jokic told CBSSports.com."I think I'll adapt with the help of basketball, I just need time. But I think it's going good (so far). Really good."

Despite needing time to adjust, there is one thing he's noticed so far that he likes a lot.

"Everybody is smiling," Jokic laughed. "Even when it's bad, it's good. Everybody smiles. Everybody's good, everybody's positive."

There's a lot of reason to be positive particularly with Jokic, given the growth he's made in his game over the past year. Since being the 41st overall pick in the 2014 draft, Jokic's stock has skyrocketed from borderline NBA prospect to potential building block for the Nuggets. Last season, he upped his averages across the board from 11.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game as a 19-year-old to 16.5 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists on his way to being named the Adriatic League's MVP in 2014-15.

Depends also how many mins he get and on what spot,he has to adjust faster and get better Malone wants defence and fast paced offense,Jokic currently doesnt fit that much in that plans if he doesnt improve.

Return to Denver Nuggets
