good move, I hope you keep Papanikolau, he is a player, Nick has some potential, I like him a lot, and Prigioni is a consumate pro, I guess you might cut him though, but you never know.

If not for the DUI, we probably could have at least gotten Decker as well out of the deal. I'm not even sure what parts of this we actually keep. At least we no longer have to deal with this looming over the team or have to deal with the potential issues that Tys troubles bring. Kind of a bitter pill to swallow but at least it's over.
I will miss Ty and hope he gets back on track with his career.

Honestly, regardless what we get back it will help us in the long run. Ridding ourselves of Lawson moves Mudiay into place. Ridding ourselves of Lawson's talent will help move us up in the lottery. Ridding ourselves of Lawson means less drama going forward. LAwson will be going to a culture which may help him get his life together.
Expected we'll get a protected 1st but give up our 2017 2nd. If we get anything more than a salary dump and the 1st, I say we still come out ahead in the long run....

I think the Nuggets made a really good draft choice, but turning it over to him as a rookie is not going to get it done in the west. The off guard slot is a mess as well. But then again the Nuggets have Gallinari, Chandler, and Faried on the roster. It feels like a treadmill team run by a young kid who really seems to be going in 3 different directions.

Prigioni will be cut, my guess is that Dorsey and Franklin should be the other two, but you might be cheap and cut Kosta's almost 5m$/y deal which is not guaranteed

Sadly, this was a move they had to do. I Don't expect us to keep any of these players and I'm guessing the protection won't be stiff enough that we don't receive it next year, so we're essentially trading Ty for a first and $25m. Hard to like that trade knowing Ty's talent, but it's definitely for the best for both parties.
I'm pretty excited to see what Mudiay can do, now that he knows this is his team.

We just resigned Nelson to be a place holder while Mudiay works his way up to being a starter.

Papanikalau could help us out. He is only 24 and has a better 3 point shot than many players on the nuggets. Not sure what to think about Nick Johnson, but hopefully he can develop into some kind of player for us.
I think the first round pick will be early 20s, as I don't see the rockets having a better record than the Warriors, Spurs, Thunder, Clippers, Grizzlies, Cavs, or Bulls. Teams like the Hawks, raptors, and pacers could also have better records.
Overall, I think it is a good trade for the nuggets, as we get Lawson away from Mudiay, a couple young players, and a first round draft pick. Seems like a good haul for a player we considered waiving a few days ago.

I would have preferred that the Nuggets hold off on trading Lawson until he could rebuild value. But given his choices that he has made over the last year I can see why the Nuggets dumped him.

I don't think they were going drive up the locker room mess by having him show up to camp.
This is a rebuilding type move. Question becomes - who goes next? Unlikely they're done given all the guys currently rostered.

That would be ideal but he may have just kept spiraling downward, killing the little trade value he still had. Hopefully he gets his act together in Houston.

I think rebuilding Ty's trade value had more risks than rewards for the Nuggets at the moment. He could have been a bad influence on teammates obviously but he also could be facing both Jail time and I assume he is definitely getting a decently lengthy suspension from the league.

Prigs is obviously next, if we waive him by tomorrow we're only on the hook for $440K and we don't need a 38yr old PG.

Ha. Yeah, technically you're dead on. Let me revise - of the guys we view as rostered players, who goes next. If they're getting waived before they get here, I'm less concerned.

I see ya'll putting work in defending the Nuggets on the general board. Now that Ty's traded everyone thinks he's a great potential all-star player but before he was decent at best. Almost all of them are completely overlooking the storm cloud hanging over Ty.
Wish the dude all the best, of course we didn't get jack for him, pick will be in the 20's. Also clears up cap space, best we could do at this point.

I would keep Nick Johnson,its an ok trade,i cant see who could have offered much better deal.I think they will keep Prigioni.In both Prigioni and Nelson you have 2 older players with 2diff skill sets from which Emmanuel can benefit learning.

Hope he seriously confronts his demons and doesn't (which I've already seen) chalk it up to a losing situation causing him to wander into trouble. That would be the Band-Aid approach, and a Band-Aid will fall off eventually.
The biggest thing I haven't seen from Ty is any type of mea culpa, or acknowledgement of how insane his behavior has been. He's been defiant at every step of the way (granted, we haven't heard from him since his latest DUI).

The Nuggets agreed to send Lawson and a 2017 second-round draft pick to Houston for a first-round pick next year along with a bevy of players, Kostas Papanikolaou, Pablo Prigioni, Joey Dorsey and Nick Johnson. Lawson has been the Nuggets starting point guard each of the past four seasons. He was third in the NBA in assists last season (9.6) and averaged 15.2 points per game. His trade value fell dramatically in the past few months due to on and off-court issues. He is in the early stages of an alcohol treatment program after a recent arrest for DUI in Los Angeles.
"It's good for him," Walters said of the trade. "He's one of the better point guards in the league. It helps the team a lot. Great coach. Great organization. Team is deep."
