2016 Nuggets Free Agency

Post#1 » by Powder Blue » Thu Jun 30, 2016 10:59 pm

Here's the #'s off DenverStiffs. $27 Million in cap space. Roughly $17 million needing to be spent just to hit the salary floor (If they care to do that)

I have heard no recent rumors regarding FA's and the Nuggets, don't expect any fireworks.

As it stands before the rookie contracts and without any of the non-guaranteed figures, the Nuggets are committed to $58,244,749 for the 2016-17 season. This number is representative of the nine guaranteed contracts currently on the roster.

After the rookie contracts kick in and Lauvergne's non-guaranteed deal is factored in, the number increases to just about $66,933,669. That number was found through the data collected by Forbes on rookie salaries this year.

$3,283,080 (Murray) + $2,032,140 (Hernangomez) + $1,663,980 (Beasley) + $1,709,720 (Lauvergne) = $8,688,920 (New)

$8,688,920 (New) + $58,244,749 (Guaranteed) = $66,933,669 in estimated total salary committed for next season.

The salary cap is expected to expand to $94 million during the 2016-17 season, leaving the Nuggets an estimated $27 million in cap space to use however they like. It may seem like the Nuggets will have a ton of room, but most max contract stars will sign for about that amount this season.

Arthur turned down $3 million for this year and some reports have him making $8-10 million per year on his next contract. That would eat up half of the Nuggets available cap space, if they wanted to resign him. He'd like some security but for those prices, I'd think anything longer than a two year deal is not team friendly.

yeah, not interested in giving more than 2 year deal to DA, he'd be 30 by then and our younger guys would be starting to peak by then

Just be patient. Nuggets have no real minutes available anyway. Best bet is to absorb some contract that can be waived at some point during the season, preferably around the all-star break for someone's pick (Andrew Bogut).

I'd be fine with bringing Arthur back on a 2yr/$20 million deal. He's still our best stretch 4 and best defensive PF. It also makes Faried much more expendable with DA back there.

I wouldn't be against giving Augustin a similar deal and/or bringing back Mike Miller on the cheap too.

Not expecting us to do much more than that.

Based on the OP numbers, the salary cap floor should be right around $85 million, so Denver would be "required" to spend $18 million.

Liked him - he was good for the Nuggets - Nelson is an OK option - neither one will be happy as a third PG - Orlando should be a good fit for DJ and I'm glad

When the front office and head coach said the Nuggets roster will change before training camp; do you suppose they meant they would help another team dump salary in order to sign a big name? I can see it now, "Team-x trades their massively overpaid backup to the Denver Nuggets along with 2 future first round picks in exchange for the draft rights to Yuyang Xue and Izzet Turkylimaz."

Are the Nuggets even trying to trade? No rumors of any substance or credibility. (I know, I know, they play it close to the vest.)

I think it's just the new and improved version of " We're going to aggressive in free agency" ...

Unnamed sources say the Nuggets are trading two of their dancers for a ballboy from the Lakers. That's AGGRESSIVE!!! At least for Connelly.

DJ got 4-yrs $29MM, Nelson looks like a bargain even at his age.

I'm disappointed about Augustin. The money per year is right about where I was expecting but I can see why we wouldn't want to make a 4 year commitment to him. Hopefully Murray plays well out of the gate, cause I don't like the thought of Nelson logging heavy backup PG minutes.

The Parsons to Memphis deal sucks for us too. That likely means Conley is re-signing and they're still a playoff team.

Parson's deal does hurt us, hopefully Dallas can woo Conley. I'm glad the Nuggets are staying quiet on the Free Agent wire. If Mozgov is getting $16m a year, I rather give the current guys on our roster bonuses. These deals are going to cause potential locker room problems, think about this scenario...

Harrison Barnes will be making double than Steph Curry, $7m per year more than Dreymond Green and $8m per year more than Klay who are all locked up in multi-year deals.

If we buy a nice player at the current going rate of $15-$20m a year, that mentally puts that player above every person on our roster.

Either make a big deal by a trade or signing. Or give out the bonuses and improve the current moral.

Why is Al Jefferson taking a 3 year $30M deal?!?!!? If I'm the Nuggets I come in and offer him 3 year $45M just for the bargain.

what other choice do we have?

hopefully next summer, we can show FA that we are on the rise (like portland) and be able to spend some of our cap space.

Well, teams like ATL, POR and MIL are getting free agents, don't see why we aren't even getting into a conversation with some of these guys.

agreed. although i cant say I would want turner or delladova at those prices.

I think our best bet at this point would be a defensive SF like crabbe.
