Hi all!

My latest for RealGM is an offseason recap of the Northwest Division, complete with grades for 2016-17 and Longer Term.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on your team and the others in the division!

Fire away!

Well, first thought is that technically we also subtracted Toupane & Sampson. I don't think it's official yet, but ...
Let's see, a second round draft-n-stash is hardly worth mentioning.
I worked hard to find anything to complain about, but those two non-issues were about it. Fantastic write-up in my mind. I was very impressed in your discussion of the over-abundance of players at too many positions. That was so very true. I hope we can survive this year with that depth, but surely the "Long-term" mention of consolidating is going to become more important every month.
I'd say, OUTSTANDING job on Denver.
I will defer on the other teams because my knowledge of them is far less than complete.

Very nice write up Smitty, very accurate and fair.

The only thing that I have issue with is this: you down-graded us to a B- for something that was beyond our control, it always take two to tango. You said the Nuggets needed to make a consolidation trade to upgrade to a superstar player, hard to disagree with that. However, it does take two parties to make that happen and for Denver, we did try by all accounts but weren't going to overpay to do this. Why would we want to dismantle a very promising core on a fiscally responsible controlled budget for what could be... ?? Many of the best trades are the ones that aren't made out of desperation.

As for free agents, we did make a strong attempt that was rebuffed because of a home-town affiliation, a element beyond our control.

I would have thought a B or B+ would have been more appropriate, but I do have homer instincts

The article is right on! Well researched at the least. I may disagree with his grading but not with his observations. Without a doubt this team needs a consolidation trade but probably can't find a taker.
