Value of Statistics

Stats can be misleading - Who leads the Nuggets in steals?
Barton
Faried
Mudiay
and yet common consensus is that Harris is our best defender. Maybe stats aren't the whole story?
Who leads the Nuggets in blocks?
Faried
Nurkic
Maybe stats aren't the whole story?
Who leads the Nuggets in assists-turnover ratio?
Harris
Jokic
Nelson
Surprised? Maybe stats aren't the whole story? Then again, sometimes they tell the story.
PER says that our three best players are:
Jokic
Faried
Nurkic
Who thinks that's correct?

My business management professor once told the the most interesting fact "Stats LIE !! They can't be made to say ANYTHING you want."
I believe only what I see and 1/2 of what I hear.

A statistic is a fact or piece of data. What you infer from the statistic is open to interpretation. Stats don't say anything, people do... using stats as evidence. The real debate is whether the statistic (like steals or blocks) is a valid or good representation of the target construct (defense).

Yeah, I NEVER trust statistics. I find them interesting, but I took a Statistical Analysis course in college and learned how deceptive statistics can be. That was a long time ago and people have learned how to manipulate them even better than back then.

Stat-wise, the Nuggets' best starting five is:
Nurkic
Jokic
Gallinari
Barton
Mudiay
Anyone want that starting five?
Second top starting five:
Jokic
Chandler
Gallinari
Harris
Mudiay
Better? Worse?
s
Third best starting five:
Nurkic
Faried
Gallinari
Mudiay
Nelson
Anyone puzzled? Maybe stats aren't the whole story, but they can sure make you wonder.
