YOU are Karnisovas. How much now are you willing to pay to keep Plumlee?

Indulge me, if you'd be so kind.

At this point, it seems rational to think there's no real interest in a 5th year since that normally would only come into play if there seemed to be serious competition out there.

Soooo... let's say, rounding off to the nearest $100K...

How much would you be wiling to give Plumlee at 4 years?

...AND..

how much would you be willing to give Plumlee at 3 years?

Give me your max, ie, your tipping point number, ie, one more hundred thousand, and you're prepared to just let him sign his qualifying offer for 2017-18 and let him go to UFA next summer.

(My motive is, I'm just curious to compare what DEN fans generally think versus what I was hearing/reading from my fellow ATL fans at one point.)

I really think our FO is going to let the market dictate his contract, as a RFA it's stupid to bid against yourself. Given that, I'd say in the range of 4-yr $27M with a 4th year TO

At this point I would tell him to take the qualifying offer, the market sucked for centers this year. I thought he would get over $12 million a year this summer, and he might next with a good season, but I want to keep our cap space next summer.

I wouldn't offer him a 3 or 4 year deal....Qualifying offer is already out there. If we had to match something maybe 3/$21 with a team tption year 3....I see no reason to lock in Mason Plumlee for more than 2 years....and it doesn't seem like anyone else does either.

QO was $4.5m roughly - he's the best fit at backup center for the Nuggets IMO - So I'd offer him $24m for 4 years with TO on year 4 --- that is pretty much what Skywalker said.

If he didn't like that, I'd offer him $8m for one year and deal with him/his replacement next year - this isn't critical even if I'm concerned about backup center play.

You have used up an asset to acquire him, so I think they have a figure in mind. He will have to take it, if he wants a longer contract. The problem with taking a qualifying offer is that he could be in the same situation next season and then be underpaid this season. He is not an ascending talent and is likely no more than a quality back up. He should get paid like one.

He has one good argument in that two Denver veterans receive 12 mil a year and he contributes nearly as much.

9 mil a season seems about right for about three years.

Take the QO.... or don't. I'm not letting plumlee ruin our flexibility next offseason.

Thanks, all. So, I'm seeing numbers from $6-$9m/yr with no interest in any guaranteed money beyond 3 years, and some preference even for him to just be left to take the QO or nothing.

No way I'd give Plumlee a guaranteed 3rd year. No one on our roster is firmly signed in 19-20 and making him the first would be a mistake.

If I think 3 years, 25 mil sounds about right (2 years + 1 year of team option at ~8m per).
Id also do a 1+1 team option for $10m/year. He gets more $$$ this season and the team maintains flexibility next year.

guys like plumlee are easily replaced. sometimes you can find a backup center for a fraction of the cost who will provide nearly the same production.

now if plumlee has a really nice bounce back season, then we can talk. until then, its not smart to give him a long term deal.

10/7.5/3.5 is not easily replaced. Even the 9.1/6.4/2.6 he posted with Denver since the trade is not matched by many. He's better than most backups. He has his flaws and is not worth huge bucks, but is far from a scrub that can be easily replaced.

And realistically, he only had two months to adjust to his new team, new system. I like Plumlee but at the right price, even if its the QO

I put Plumlee & Faried on about the same level. They both have some skill skill but are marginal as a starter and best suited as a backup (~20 mpg). A contract in the 12 mil range is a bit too high. About 8 mil a year seems about right.
