Murray - Team Leader?

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Wed Dec 6, 2017 12:13 pm

Have you noticed Murray calling a huddle at the free throw line? Telling people something? Not sure he's a team leader, but he seems to be heading in that way.

Who is the Nuggets best ISO player? Clearly Barton, but does it appear Murray might be a potential ISO player? Big shot player?

Murray in my eyes has always shown leadership capabilities and the willingness and want to take over games and be great, but I think the veterans have kind of gotten in the way of it the last couple of years. Now with Millsap out & Chandler being worthless it is time Murray and Jokic step up and start asserting their leadership and running things. I almost think that is why Jefferson was brought on, he is constantly talking to the young guys and he has always played with some great team leaders.

A lot to ask of a 20yo in his 2nd year. I think it will develop in time but it takes time, trust and experience

Until he learns how to play the defense and make his teammates better on the court he can forget about leadership, he's playing at the most important position on the team and to me he's below average right now, an assist or two per game is miserable for any PG.

Defense? On the Nuggets? Surely you jest. Sure, they're doing better than last year, but it seems doubtful that they are scaring anyone with their defense.

But yeah, I'll agree and then I'll quote the all-wise Skywalker who just reminded us he's 20 years old and just beginning his journey towards leadership.

Tonight's game is an example, he's a point guard, he needs to learn playmaking not just scoring . Denver defense breaks from outside, he's one of the problems on the defense, he has to commit more , Nelson was awful last year but Murry is not much better than him, no improvement there this season at all.

He's a PG? Really? Murray is 67th in the league in usage. The Nuggets' offense doesn't work in the old style. Barton brings the ball up court and starts the offense, so does Harris, of course Jokic does as well, once in a while Millsap or Chandler brings the ball up court and starts the offense. "PG" is just a label of convenience on the Nuggets (and some other teams). Comparing him to Nelson is just not appropriate because Nelson is a true-PG.

Murray would be less of a problem on defense if he was over 20 years old and had played more minutes last year. He just needs time and fans need to understand the Nuggets' offense.

There is no way that Murray should be blamed for the game last night, he cannot hit everybodies shots, and a 20 year old cannot be expected to stop every guard on the court and help on Cousins every play. Our defense is still ****, and our offense is based on a drive and kick system that does not really utilize a PG.

Just re-watched the Pelicans game and focused on Murray. Even Hastings pointed out in the 4th quarter that Murray doubled Cousins down low and was the first one to get back outside to contest a shooter.

I've said it before and I will repeat it now, the Nuggets' defense, especially on the pick-n-roll is designed to make guards have poor defensive statistics because they virtually always trail over the top, giving their guy an easy shot and/or drive.

Murray hustles whenever he's in the game and I have no doubt he will learn!
