Nuggets Will Retain Michael Malone As Head Coach

The Denver Nuggets will retain Michael Malone as head coach next season.

The Nuggets finished one game out of the playoffs.

“There’s improvement across all levels of our team,” Connelly said. “I guess (questioning Malone’s job status is) the unfortunate narrative of professional basketball, but ‘Mo’s done a fantastic job.’ ”

Malone has one season remaining on his current contract.

“Over the last several weeks of the season, I thought ‘Mo did just a brilliant job kind of using our roster, being creative and thinking outside the box,” Connelly said. “I can’t say enough (about) how proud of him and his staff I am, faced with insurmountable odds after a rough start to (a seven-game) road trip…

“We had every chance to lay down, and we did the opposite. I think our coaching staff should be lauded for a fantastic job.”

Well, at least he admitted there are a lot of question regarding Malone.

Frankly I don't care about any of the Nuggets regarding where they are from or their coach is from. The reason I'd like that Europe style of play (and there are several different ones but all have one trait) is the free flowing offense.

The free flowing offense is so great for one reason: Jokic. I have no doubt that Murray, Harris, Beasley, Craig, Lyles, Hernangomez, Faried would all work quite nicely in that offense - and some of the rest of the Nuggets would as well. If they don't mind hustling, they can play with a Jokic-centric offense IMO.

Most of the offense's in Europe are not really free flow offenses , especially once in Euroleague, also their coaches are control freaks they are often reluctant to play young talented guys and the transition for them straight to the NBA would be very hard. The Serbian legendary coach Dusan Ivkovic actually had an offer by Denver to become the head coach long time ago , I think he would have survived NBA :)

Do you even watch any of the European leagues? I'd love to hear from one of our European posters on this.

Free flowing offenses in Europe?

BTW - almost every head coach is a control-freak - plus they all have massive egos, that's what it takes to get to where they are - some just learn how to use their players' strengths while others try to mold their players into their system --- I'd call that "good control-freak" and "bad control-freak"

The coaches have much more authority in Europe , they are like dictators in the most instances and that doesen't bode well in the NBA which is player's league, coaches are expendable unless you are Popovich and few other coaches of that statue , also cultural differences , language barrier etc. David Blatt lasted only an half of the season and he's an American coach who have coached in Europe.

Euro coaches are notorious for not playing young guys. I think you might be opposed to that lol

Nuggets fired Karl a week after saying they were keeping him. Let’s hope they change their mind again now that Bud is available. The main reason I haven’t been as eager to send Malone walking is because there wasn’t anyone out there that was a guaranteed upgrade. Bud is.

Saying that Euro coaches refuse to play young guys is ridiculous. The best coaches like Ivkovic, Pesic and Obradovic played young players both in teams and in national teams. Many others do as well. Also, Kokoskov empowered Doncic in Slovenian NT, that's one of the best examples, especially since we already discussed Kokoskov.

Also, not all, but many coaches in Europe are better than most of NBA coaches and they organize the ball movement and complex schemes well.

Is there any defensive specialist that would like to be assistant coach?

Somebody should go with a bomb to Denver's FO and demand from the owner to read this topic.

Stotts and Budenholzer may both be available and we are stuck with Malone.

Return to Denver Nuggets
