Jarred Vanderbilt

Spend the last hour or so watching all the jarred Vanderbilt I could find on YouTube. He’s a much better passer and better ball handler than I was expecting. Jumper isn’t as broken as people are making it out to be. Can’t tell too much about defense without watching full games, but he has the size, body type and athleticism to be the type of guy that can guard 3s and 4s and switch on to 1,2&5 in a pinch.

Fun fact: he was HS teammates with DeAaron Fox for 3 years and beat MPJ and Gary Trent 1 on 1 on 1

I'm a big fan. Athletic, can pass, High motor, projects to be a good defender. I'm hoping he could follow a similar development pattern to Draymond Green. Didn't get much opportunity to shoot at kentucky but hopefully he isn't terrible. Also for 19 this guy is jacked. Nice pick in the 2nd round.

He was used poorly at Kentucky from what I saw (common for Kentucky). saw him playing out of the high post a lot instead of screening and cutting

I got a good feeling about this guy. He may end up being the pf of the future.

Hearing he's in a cast right now, do we call this the "potential" draft ??

Could’ve drafted 2 starters, or all 3 could be out of the league after their rookie contract.

I'll believe the former rather than the later, seems much more probable.

He is probably going to spend the first year at G-League. To me, the most interesting question is how Vanderbilt will fit with Plumlee playing for our 2nd unit because both are defensive specialists, with Dunk/Tip-In limited offense, but also with good passing skills.

Yeah, go figure this one. Malone seems to love Plumlee but doesn't even like Faried and those three all have similar traits. So your guess is as good as anybody's as to what Malone will do with Vanderbilt. No doubt he'll leave Vanderbilt in the G-League all year and ignore him. So the question becomes a 2019 issue and we can ignore it for now.

Considering he was a McDonalds All-American and a 5star recruit, had he not been injured how high of a draft pick woul he have been ?

I'm not very good on drafts but I'd have guessed late 1st or very early 2nd. Offense is what gives value and his is lacking, or so it seems.

Vanderbilt was the 14th rated high school recruit when he came out of high school, now that does not always project the same as being a draft pick, but it shows he was pretty well thought of at one point

He has Ben Simmons like traits - I described him last year as being Ben Simmons lite-lite.

Excellent rebounder, very good in the open floor/transition in terms of ball-handling for his size, good passer. Obviously Simmons is a lot better at the ball-handling/transition/passing but arguably we haven't seen something like Simmons in that regard since Magic Johnson. They are both terrible shooters.

To pick someone like that up in a second round of a draft is fantastic drafting. There hasn't been anyone else like him in the draft since Simmons - even if he doesn't pan out what you have is quite rare and worth taking a swing on. He's certainly someone you can develop in terms of him potentially becoming a hyper-valuable point-forward.

Yeah, not sure we'll see that this year. He's likely to be a two-way that gets very little time with the Nuggets. We have a multitude of PFs and at SF we have Chandler & Barton and it seems likely Craig will get signed. Malone used all three of them last year.

Not sure what Vanderbilts future is this year but next year should be important, health not-with-standing !

Surprised, Vanderbilt signs a 3-yr $4M deal today to join the club. I thought he'd be a candidate for the 2-way contract but seems the club wants to keep closer tabs on him.

Seems a little strange for a 2nd round pick - I too would have expected a two-way. Curiouser & curiouser.

Perhaps it precludes an impending trade or waive/stretch......that'd be my guess, although I believe Morris is still on a two-way contract( which may lead to Barton getting a few more PG mins :noway: )

I think it is a good deal long term, but I do not know what we need another PF on the roster for. I expect the roster to have Millsap, Lyles, Lydon, Juancho, and likely one of Faried or Arthur who are all PFs or capable of PF minutes.

Just feels like a way to keep him under our team physicians watchful eyes while he recuperates. Listed at 6'9" 215lbs, he looks like he can play either forward spot even though most expect him to play the PF spot in a Draymond Green role. I'm guessing the Nuggets still look at Juancho as a SF/swing F, a "type" they seem to like.
