Nuggets' Centers

Jokic is a top-notch center, although not "normal". His defense is intelligent, not rim-protection but he clogs the center and deters drives (except those two-on-ones resulting from the Nuggets' approach to picks).
Plumlee is a decent backup who knows his role.
Welsh is our emergency backup - unless we want an undersized PF playing center (which I don't like). Not sure if they'd use him in case of injury and not sure if he's got an NBA future. We shall see.

Nail'd it Guv'nah !!!
Skimmed over Plumlee, he plays decent defense, picks up stray points and does his over-paid job
Welsh is probably not even going to see the court let alone the NBA , but that's just my opinion

Does Welsh have the potential to be Jokic's backup in 2020-2021? I'm not convinced but it's OK if we wait another year or two to find a reasonable backup.

Can't say I got to see him a lot in college or the SL but the tape I have seen on him doesn't really jump out on either side of the ball. Sure as heck hope I'm wrong though

With the way Connelly was talking, I think the front office is planning on Lydon being our 3rd string center this year, I think Welsh is going to be our emergency big that they really do not intend to use this year. They have all stated that they like to draft 2nd round picks a year too early, they focus on late bloomers that they think will take a jump and become NBA talents. You may get crazy lucky and get a Jokic, or unlucky and get a Cornelie that is never going to be good enough for the NBA, but if you draft well you can get solid role players in the 2nd round. How many guys that were 2nd rounders or not even drafted are good role players around the league? There are more than you would expect, and I think they drafted Welsh hoping he develops in a year or 2 into a guy that can be a viable backup Center. If not it was only a late 2nd and a small 2 way deal.

Well, barring a trade we will have Plumlee for two years so perhaps Welsh can develop in that time. I'm ok having Lydon as our emergency Center, he has shown he has some shot-blocking skills.
