Jarred Vanderbilt Thread

So I wanna talk about Vanderbilt about his potential and what I can see him bring to this team and I want to hear your guys opinion aswell and as the season progresses and we get more tape on him regardless if it's from the G-league or nba when he gets his chance.

For me as soon as we drafted him and I looked him up I have thought he is our future starting 4. Fans have been discussing is it lyles, junacho who is our starting 4 (long term) after millsap isn't on this team anymore altough i think we will re-strcutre his deal, for me neither of them are but Vanderbilt instead. IMO you can't have a bad defensive 4 on this team with Jokic and we desperatly need an elite defender like all-nba after millsap is done and IMO where I envision Vanderbilt defensive ceiling I can see him being an all-nba defender If he reaches the hypothetically ceiling I have for him and why I am saying "hypothetically" is becuase it's too early and we haven't seen much of him but it's all guessing on my part so far. Now, I don't think he will ever be a good offensive player I see his offensive game somewhat of a kenneth faried, pretty limited but that is fine as long as he can be an elite defender like I think and an elite rebounder. (he has crazy college rebounding stats) We all know how well Jokic and faried played together so I can see something similar.

An other thing is he is a playmaker which is great since jamal isn't the best so with him and Jokic we have even more leeway with that murray is an average playermaker as a PG and it could lessen the burden on Jokic. I would say if he develops he will be like faried on offense but he will bring draymond green's versatility and intangibles but maybe he could develop his offensive and be a decent shooter and being a ok 3P shooter.
It's funny how many teams want to have a player like draymond green and people think how he was a second rounder IMO we have gotten possibly the new draymond green and also in the second round lol :P

I saw someone ask him on a AMA that he and welsh were holding and asked him about a practice where he was shooting james harden like stepback 3's and said he wants the 3 to be apart of his game in the NBA I will link the thread. https://old.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/9hhfuy/ama_denver_nuggets_thomas_welsh_and_jarred/

I think he will fit in great with this team when he catches up with the nba game/pace but it will take time so we need to have patience and hopefully he will be healthy and those foot injuries won't be recurring since he has had a couple.

Sry for the tl;dr :p I think he can be realistically like kenneth faried on offense and bring draymond green's versatility and intangibles.

It seems like we will get updates on him today so I wanted to make this and have for a while. https://old.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/aiq0pg/kosmider_jarred_vanderbilt_the_secondround_pick/
I think if he and MPJ become healthy and develop, we will be the biggest winners of the draft.

Yeah, not much to say beyond what you said. We just need to wait and see.

I am a huge fan of JVs potential but as WY has pointed out, up until probably next year, it’s just potential so far

If Vanderbilt and Porter Jr. stay healthy and develop into those defensive and offensive (respectively) specialists we hope them to be, then they could eventually replace both Millsap and Barton in that starting unit and have our own version of GSW's death lineup:

Curry - Murray
Thompson - Harris
Durant - Porter Jr.
Green - Vanderbilt
Cousins - Jokic

Porter JR if he reaches anywhere close to his potential is supposed to be a superstar not a specialist.

He's comparing our players to their GSW equivalences and I would call Durant a superstar, not a specialist.

My bad, although I would hesitate to put any rookie on that level. IF we are being honest all we really need is above average starters there and this team could contend in a year or two.

For me, he is a very interesting long term project, with zero expectations this and next season. Look at the careers of similar forwards cases, good at passing and defense, but awful in the shooting. JV is still 19, and Borris Diaw, Joakim Noah, and Draymond Green are almost invisible during the first two seasons despite joining NBA at 21+. So, I have also big expectations from JV as a very useful frontcourt player in future Nuggets defensive and offensive schemes, but unlike in MPJ case, not before 2022!

Reportedly a glutton for the weight room, I’d love to see him at the 245 lbs range in a few years.

I just want to see him get 10-15 mpg for a stretch and see how he does.

Didn't notice the boxscores. Checked his debut clip and I guess it's safe to say that he's already a better ball handler and passer(?) than Faried?

Faried? Really? He was not known as a ball handler or a passer. He was adequate as a PF but his forte was rebounding and hustle. Vanderbilt showed he could rebound and that's hustle. He didn't demonstrate much defense but there wasn't much effort happening during those last four minutes so he didn't need to play much defense.

What impressed me most was his 3 quick rebounds. Let's get crazy and extrapolate his 3 rebounds in 4 minutes and project 20 minutes with 15 rebounds :D --- probably doesn't happen quite like that but still impressive.

And let's not overlook that 45 foot one-handed bounce pass through a couple of defenders!

I reckon he'll spend some time in the G league in order to get himself up too speed. I think he got minutes at the death because we were smashing the Suns, which won't happen in close games.

Nice start for him though, and it's great to see the team get around him. The unity and comradery within the squad seems to be really genuine.

That pass was very nice. It was great to see him back himself and his court vision as it looked like he was very nervous early (which is understandable). Missing the easy layup was down to nerves, but he didn't let it stop him from trying that nice pass.

Looking forward to Jarred Vanderbilt's Delaware Blue Coats (I believe that's their name?) debut in a few hours.
