I just want ONE FULL HEALTHY year of Juancho, so tired of seeing glimpses or what he could become...I want to see what he IS.

As for SL, the one guy that has looked good so far in both games according to Coach Jordi ??? PG Jordan Davis !! He's shown he can be a energy guy off the bench, can score a bit and even looks good defensively. Battle between Goodwin and Davis for a roster spot IMO.

Outside of moving well off the ball and their shooting I really do not see the Juancho and Cancar comparison. Cancar is a better man to man defender while Juancho is significantly better at help defense. Cancar has better handles and is good at creating his own shot, while Juancho is more of a spot up shooter and finisher that others have to create for him. Juancho is obviously a SF with good size even if he is slightly slower than what you want in the perfect world, while Cancar is obviously a big that is PF size. I think they both fill needs, especially if Barton ends up getting traded as we need another guy who can create for himself off the bench. Morris right now is the only semi-dependable one that can create for himself.

Davis had some solid plays on both ends when I was watching. I am not sure that I would say he is better than Goodwin at this point but then again Goodwin had almost the entire year in the Dleague and with the Nuggets and really does not appear to have improved in his ability to run the offense.

JV having another good game, 11pts 6rpgs at the half. Still raw but showing well, as he should be.

Another good Denver SL game until 4th quarter disaster. Yesterday we lose 4th 20-34, today 7-24.

I would not call good his opening 4-7 game, which is clearly not enough for weak SL standards, but in 2nd with 12-12, and 20-16 today is another story. I know his basic role in Nuggets will never be scoring, but if he can't be constantly in double digits in Summer League games competition it would be a problem for a player with ambition to play NBA level.

Australian Jock Landale played last season here in Belgrade for Partizan club, and he was nothing special when he comes, but at the end, he was the best player there, and his progress seems still continues this summer. He playing for Bucks this Summer League and was their best player in 3 out of 4 games so far. He is undrafted, but already much more close to NBA (I guess next season, not this) than our Vlatko Cancar. For Cancar if he wants to be part of Nuggets the key is 3pt% stats, and under 30% this summer (4-14) is not so promising, he is clearly behind Juancho.

I am not sold on Cancar deserving a contract at this point and honestly, I'm not sure he will ever be a decent NBA player. Best player tonight for us was clearly JV. He showed off his skill set very well.

I like Cancar but he seems to lose focus. He certainly has size and talent we can utilize but given this is a time where he should be trying to showcase his skills and I don't see it.

Of course I talk down about Vanderbilt and up about Cancar and Vanderbilt comes out and has by far his best game of the summer league and Cancar has by far his worst.

I strongly disagree with you guys that think that Cancar is not an NBA player, in a glorified scrimmage where it is well known that forwards are set up to fail he was the only guy drawing constant double teams against teams.

I have lost all faith in Goodwin being the 3rd PG, he is a good scorer but even with his turnover issues and getting out of control at times Vanderbilt was better at creating shots for guys than Goodwin was.

Four guards and two centers - that leaves nine slots for forwards (maybe one each for center & guard but ...) I think this year we do our best. We will indeed make the playoffs and probably have a good shot at going deep in the playoffs. However, this seems like the year to figure out our forwards (and other bench players) considering our future.

Millsap & Grant & Vanderbilt & Bol & Cancar --- Is Grant our future starting PF (or SF)? Is Vanderbilt going to be what we want? Will Bol fit as only a backup center or can he play some PF too? Can Cancar work out for our team?

Barton & Porter & Hernangomez & Craig --- Will Porter stay healthy? How about Hernangomez?

Will Malone use Millsap & Barton so much we can't evaluate anyone else?

Welsh plus someone else as Two-way players?

Seems you're not the only ones with concerns about Goodwin, the Nuggets withdrew their 2-way contract offer from the PG.

Interesting.....

The guy can score, but in his 2nd summer league after a year in the NBA/Gleague than I expect point guards to dominate and impose their will in a tournament full of Gleaguers and 3rd stringers with the rookies. HE could score at times, but his lack of ability to hit the open passes, control the pace of the offense, and pass into the post just convinced me that he is not a guy that you can count on to come in an play 20 mpg as a backup pg. Cancar and Vanderbilt especially were put into bad positions after Goodwin threw them a bad pass allowing the defense to recover and our offense would break down.

Unfortunately I do not see anybody else on our summer league that I would want to be our 3rd PG, but I am sure they can find one out of the summer league that will sign for a 2 way deal that would be a better fit for this team.

Think they liked Jordan Davis but I'd be looking at the other clubs too, gotta be someone that has as much potential as Goodwin.

Haven't been impressed with Cancar at all. Seems like a hype job so far.

1-3 record in 2019 Summer League is not that bad as it seems. Out of two players destined to be Nuggets MVP in this league, Porter didn't play at all, and Terence Davis left the team already after the first game. In two out of three loses team played well before the final quarter.

Talking about players which can be relevant for our 2019-20 roster Vanderbilt was clearly the best, but so far defense and especially rebounding is his the only skills which give him NBA ticket. Development of his passing skills will be key for him as a useful member of Nuggets offense, and he must work very hard to improve it, 2+ assists per game in this Summer League, which is nice for a forward, is arguably overshadowed by his 4+ turnovers per game numbers. Goodwin showed once again that he is too good for G-League but not enough good for the NBA. Welsh disappointed me this SL, but to be fair his playing time was very reduced. Vlatko Cancar gets advantage ahead Brandon Goodwin from our management, but I guess only thanks to his fundamentals, not the current game level for sure. Denver roster is so deep and stacked, so Vlatko best chance to become useful for Nuggets is to improve his 3pt% skills, which unfortunately didn't happen last two years in Spain, and we can see it in this SL. The idea of Cancar as a defensive specialist in Denver may work maybe in some future, but not this season when we have on the forward positions Millsap, Grant, Craig, and Vanderbilt.

This should be the most exciting Denver Nuggets Summer League ever, but unfortunately, Michael Porter Jr was injured just before the start, and our discovery Terence Davis joins Toronto after 1st game.

Cancar is a stud. Very happy w cancar and Vanderbilt. Goodwin is a good player. Davis is Better. I think they make a trade and then bring Goodwin back on a Monte Morris type deal

Return to Denver Nuggets
