WOJ: Jerami Grant for 1st

Post#1 » by skywalker33 » Mon Jul 8, 2019 2:52 pm

WOJ reporting we're sending our 2020 1st to OKC for F Jerami Grant.

I'm not a fan of trading within our division or trading away 1sts but it should help us out, I like Grant's defensive game and looks like he can solidify the PF position. Does take away mins for Vandy, not crazy about that. He has 2yrs left at $9M and is only 25yo so could be a long term replacement for Milsap.

Next year is a PO so he'll likely get a new contract if he performs like he did for us. That coincides nicely will Millsap expiring. He'll be a good fit with Denver. The dude can rip the rip off the backboard. He's 3P% has been up and down his whole career but I think it will hold true moving forward. He's a hard worker.

He was shooting almost 40% from 3...Is that unusual for him?

As I already said, I like the move, grat fit for Jokic. Let´s hope he continues his 3pt range around 40%.

I think there shall be more moves. With this add, we are 2M below the tax limit with 13 players and Bol Bol has to sign his contract. Either we have no 3rd PG or we move somebody else.

Must have been an off-season focus. Hopefully it sticks.

The only negative thing I can say is that he might eat away at potential MPJ/Vanderbilt minutes, but it doesn't hurt to have a 3rd PF on roster. Hopefully this is the FO's way of pressuring Malone out of PF Plumlee lineups, they paid a 1st to get a real guy on Millsap's off minutes.

Now if we can get a SF to fix the Barton problem we'd have had a very understated but strong offseason.

Think this Jerami Grant signing is a signal that Barton is going to get traded next? I feel like Jerami Grant might play some 3 at the end of games with Millsap and Jokic. How will minutes be distributed with Torrey Craig, Michael Porter Jr., Will Barton, Paul Millsap and NOW Jerami Grant at the 3-4? No more Jokic and Plumlee? No more Beasley at the 3 with Murray and Morris? Does Vanderbilt still ride the bench?

This is a pretty solid addition. I assume this means no more Lyles which I am fine with. This seems like a much better fit next to Jokic and a potential replacement for Milsap. While I know a lot of us are high on Vanderbilt, he isn't a guaranteed thing and this is basically his rookie year, so expecting too much out of him probably isn't a great idea.

I asked for TOP30 forward. Than for TOP50. And at the end at least TOP150 forward. If Grant continues to improve for a 25y old, he should be TOP100 player this season! I wanted more 3&D combo forward which primal position is SF and secondary PF, not opposite. But if Grant and Porter fulfill expectations both, this is an actually better job on long terms.

If Millsap stays, Plumlee and Barton should go, which probably will cost us 2022 first.

Murray(25), Morris(23)
Harris(30), Murray(8), Beasley(10)
Porter(15), Craig(20), Beasley(13)
Millsap(13), Grant(25), Porter(10)
Jokic(35), Millsap(13)

Grant is the definition of a tweener. He struggles defending the three on the wing and struggles with bruiser pf's like Favors and Griffen. He's become a really nice finisher around the basket after being an absolute disaster his first year in okc.

You guys got a solid player in Grant; after watching him while I followed the Thunder, he is a solid defender and rebounder for his position. The depth of the Nuggets got deeper and look to be a solid playoff team this upcoming season.

We finally used a TPE, and for a guy that should be a great fit long term. He is likely going to opt out next summer, but with Millsap and Plumlee expiring we should still be able to re-sign him and add a new backup Center depending on how the young guys are developing.

I kinda like it and kinda not. As Millsap's back up why not for that prize. On the other side I believe Nuggets were already deep enough. I don't like the idea of having such a nice players like Juancho, Vanderbilt or Craig just waving towels on the bench. Like those guys. Want them to have minutes...

Well, I like the ideal of a Jokic-Millsap-Grant-Harris-Murray lineup to close out the 4th qtrs, good defense and still have some offense on the court.

If Harris and Juancho return to health and form imagine the offense with Juancho and Grant spotted up at 3/4, and Harris and Murray playing off Jokic. That is damn near impossible to stop as you cannot take your eyes off your guy at any of those spots.

Years past have taught me that there are never enough bodies on this roster to survive a full season.

Why you are people so high on Juancho ??? He have showed some flashes here and there as the spot up shooter but he's inconsistent , I don't think he's even rotational player in the NBA , not for the contender team such as Denver, or they try to be .

I agree with most of this statement and would throw Vando in here as well. Fact is we can't expect every young player on our roster to develop into a serviceable vet. Imagine if we would have had Grant in the playoffs last year! Juancho and Vando will still get minutes but we needed a developed F badly so I'm onboard with this move.

Mix in MPJ/Cancar/Bol and we def have a glut of F's that "need" mins but I have no doubt they'll all get their chance, injuries happen, glad we're a little more prepared to battle in the West now.

True, which makes me believe we have another trade coming, perhaps closer to the trade deadline. We are 2 deep at every position, even 2+ at some which isn't doing players 9-12 nor the team any good IMO. At this point, I'm OK trading away those 1st that are going to be later round picks, yet the value we're losing holding on to players that are sitting on the bench is not forward thinking. We should be looking at what our best rotational players are, find out if players 12-17 can be looked out to replace/fill any of those 5-12 spots upon development and replace some of those draft picks we've traded away.

As a starter primarily in November and December Juancho averaged 11.2/6.3/1.2 on 64.3% TS with the team going 17-8 with him at SF. He was also a positive player at +4.5. Overall for the year he was a slightly positive defender and a huge plus on offense, playing through the injury. People forget he had the same injury that cost Barton half the season and Harris 25 games affecting them both throughout the end of the season. HE was not really effective after his injury, but reality is that he should not have been playing.

So I ask both of you guys, what do you expect from a 5th starter? Not every player on the roster is going to be a superstar, you need guys that can do things that make the team better, and Juancho hitting the spot up shots and with his help defense are a huge benefit to the team. The fact that so many blow him off make me question what they hell they were watching, healthy Juancho was easily better than Lyles or Craig yet people consider Juancho expendable?

For Vanderbilt, I am curious on what he brings. His scouting report is a defensive specialist with an iffy outside shot, that is very good at man to man and help defense, and a great handle and passing for a big man. With Vanderbilt, Cancar, Bol Bol, and whoever else they bring in as a backup PF we are talking about our 4th big and 10th overall in the rotation. I do not think it is worth a lot of assets when we have those 3 and Juancho who can all fight for the minutes.

Now with grant on the team, I am hoping that we move Barton to free up minutes so that both Grant and Juancho will get minutes as I have little faith that MPJ will stay healthy at this point.
