I believe we can go over the cap as much as we want to resign someone with Bird rights. Tax might get expensive but we will have Barton coming off the books. Connelly will have to do some magic with role players, but hopefully this team continues to draft some and becomes a destination for veterans trying to win a championship with this core in place. Jokic might be the only player in the league who would consider taking a hometown discount if we are winning.

The deadline for this no-brainer extension is in the middle of October so I was ready to push here a panic taster next week

The team which is known for overpaying its own players for some unknown reason in this case tried... I don't know actually what was point of these shilly-shally tactics with MPJ which market price is obvious, and everything except a 5y max deal would be a mistake.

The extension was the reasonable contract. No player option and last year is partially guaranteed. If you want to compete for the championship, you need to have 3max caliber players, like BKN, LAL, MIL, GSW...

Ownership is fully committed with this roster, they will be paying a big tax bill for 3 years approximately
