Denver Nuggets 2024-25 Regular Season road to the 2025 playoff

For the first time ever our Northwest Division was clearly the strongest division in the NBA last season with Denver, OKC, and Minnesota occupying all top-3 spots in the West with some chances to repeat the same this season. Since 2018-19 Denver was always the WC TOP3 seed except once, including the best W-L record in 2022-23 and co-best in 2023-24.

Jokic 56 points on 38 FGA
All other Nuggets 57 points on 56 FGA

Time to clean house.

Fire Calvin Booth and Michael Malone. Cut DeAndre Jordan, Jalen Pickett, and Hunter Tyson. Trade Michael Porter Jr and (if anyone is dumb enough to take him) Zeke Nnaji.

We're stuck with Murray, unfortunately.

Unfortunately, with 56-16-8 Joker did not deliver enough today, while Jordan Poole looked like Jordan which sounds normal but is not.

What’s the short term plan?

Sack the coach should be discussed as the team is completely dysfunctional when Jokic sits & many players are regressing and Malone should receive some of the blame

MPJ and Murray have destroyed the franchise.

Nuggets have no play other than to trade Jokic right now and start rebuilding slowly until they can properly rid themselves of MPJ/Murray/Nnaji/Gordon etc

Jokic got the nuggets a championship by a slim margin IMO from what I saw in that miami/denver series. Time to move on and properly build a team!

Maybe also switch back to the powder blue uniforms from this awful crimson red scheme!

Jokic has to be traded. There is no point in keeping Jokic with Murray as PG. Dude is trash and always has been (bubble series has never been indicative of how he plays)

Extending bums like murray and MPJ ensure there is no contending window with Jokic moving forward. A guy like Aaron Gordon isnt getting you another chip

Trade Porter for what you can get.

Attach a 1st round pick to Nnaji and Strawther and try to get something back.

Cut Jordan, Tyson, Pickett, and Cancar. Sign Dennis Smith, Justin Holiday, Lonnie Walker.

Players didn’t give themselves those contracts

Also seems absurd that the team has very few draft assets left and the roster revolves around one guy who was picked in the 2nd round nearly a decade ago

There’s been some gross mismanagement as there must have been a lot of mistakes in the meantime

Yup Jokic aside Denver front office has been arguably the worst in the league since the GM who assembled those mid 2000's Nugget teams with Melo

I am a Nets fan so have seen a couple of these guys recently

DSJ no but Lonnie is actually useful and should be on a roster

He can score and is nowhere near being the worst defender (it’s an effort thing with him)

Porter can shoot and he's stayed healthy for over two straight years now, and he only has two years left on his deal. His contract is absolutely movable.

And those other moves are upgrades. Holiday could walk into our rotation tomorrow. He can defend multiple positions, he already knows our system, and he shot 40% from 3 last year.

Murray’s contract is the franchise killer not MPJ’s

They're stuck with Murray. You can't trade a guy right after he signs an extension and nobody would take him anyway.

Porter could actually bring useful pieces back right now, though. Besides Joker himself and maybe Braun or Watson, he's the only guy you could trade for value right now. Gordon is a good player but he just signed an extension too.

I would try to get Simmons to accept a buyout (“hey Ben, Aspen is right there”) later in the season

He’s looking fit again and has already been paid well over 50% of his contract money for the year as it’s front loaded

That would solve a lot of their issues in defence and with the time without Jokic

Wow! Lots of panic. Let's take a breath.

Porter's contract isn't a killer and he's health, an excellent spot-up shooter that fits well with Jokic, plus he's not only our #2 scorer but he's also our #2 rebounder. He's an excellent fit with Jokic on offense.

Murray's contract is hurting us but he's our #3 scorer and #2 assist man. He's also a decent fit with Jokic on offense. Although his health seems to be a problem.

Goron is shooting threes better this year than ever -- but not a lot of volume yet. He fits fairly well with Jokic.

For several years, the Nuggets have freely traded draft picks -- IMO that's because Malone doesn't like young players.
At this point, I don't believe we'll have a draft pick this year. So suggesting we wrap some picks with some players isn't going to work.

For everyone bashing our players, answer this; why would anyone want to trade for players that are as terrible as you are describing?

Either poor draft picks or poor development of young players has led to less depth over the last few years. Having a fire sale now, will result in multiple years of being uncompetitive.

So the question is, do the Nuggets have a plan to build around Jokic -- however that can be done?
Or do they give up on the best player in the NBA at his peak?

What's their plan?

My two cents:

Offer Jamal Murray to the only team that still would gamble and pay big for him: the Toronto Raptors!

Something like this:
NUGGETS: Scottie Barnes
RAPTORS: Murray, Watson, and 2x future 1sts with 2x swaps

(but this deal must wait for summer)

None of this matters with Murray staying. He is who he is. Anyone who has followed the Nuggets for any period of time knows his game and its just not good enough.

For every 50 point game murray can dish out hell go another 3-4 games dropping an inefficient 12 point stinker.

Theres many, many other nBA point guards who can do what he does on a much more efficient, consistent basis. Fred Van Fleet and another serviceable, solid player who could replace MPJ would make the nuggets that much better.

Horrible trade IMO.

The time has come for a nuggets rebuild. Joker has got to go and nugget fans can blame KSE

if we want to trade Murray we will have to give Strawther or Watson for sure, I would try maybe with SAC and ATL, 3 team trade where Denver sends Murray, Strawther, Nnaji, Saric, 1st round 2031 and try to get Fox and Bogdanovic

Sure, I am "dissapointed" too by this loss. But how crazy or stupid is someone thinking "you know what would be good idea? Lets trade best player in franchise history, that will help for sure..."

Well two things should happen. Both Booth and Malone should be fired.

Booth should be fired cause that terrible Murray extention. And even more for assembling bench that might be historically terrible.

Malone... Those who visit our forums frequently know for many years I was defending him. He has many flaws (like unability to use back up centers. Mason Plumlee, Cousins, Hartenstein, McGee, Thomas Bryant... Either couldnt use them properly or they had better seasons after they left) but I think he lost locker room. Players cannot get motivated by him anymore.

Anyway, proud in wins, loyal in losses. Go Nuggets.
