NBL
After coming within a mere 0.5 of an assist of averaging a rare triple-double, Adelaide 36ers import Julius Hodge has taken out his second consecutive National Basketball League Player of the Week award in Round 20 of the 2007/08 HUMMER Championship.
Hodge averaged 31.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists for the week as Adelaide split their two games for the round.
On Saturday the American guard, who also took out the Round 19 weekly award, had 25 points, 12 rebounds, 13 assists and one steal in the 36ers mammoth upset win over reigning champions Brisbane at the Distinctive Homes Dome, 133-97.
Whilst the 36ers lost their second game of the week, going down to the Gold Coast Blaze on the road on Sunday 127-118, Hodge was once again a standout for the 36ers. He racked up a game-high 37 points as well as nine rebounds, six assists and one block. He went 12-of-19 from the field and was a perfect 13-of-13 from the free throw line.
He becomes the first player to win back-to-back awards this season and only the fourth star to take out the weekly honour more than once.
Gold Coast Blaze import Jason Crowe also was considered closely for the award in Round 20, after averaging 24.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists for the week. Crowe helped his team to a 1-1 record, including scoring a crucial win over Hodge

I always thought we gave up on him too easily.

Not really, he just wasn't ready for the NBA.

He was doing similar lines in the NBDL for some time. I think he was ready. We just never gave him a chance.

he suffered from the misfortune of not being an undersized guard, for one. that and getting shot what, three times? the last year of the guy's contract he was injured, and it just didn't make a lot of sense to re-sign him while he was recovering from an injury of that magnitude.

He wasn't very good. Milwaukee didn't like him either.
Glad to hear he's doing well in Australia.

I thought it was strange that his game didn't translate to the pro ranks. He was so good at NC State. I hope he makes it back to the league and plays well. Hopefully he won't be a Toby Bailey. HA!
