We need to get Sam Cassell on this team ASAP Denver is one of the teams that has shown interest in him! The Celtics and Mavs are the two other teams. We need a real point guard on this team immediately if we wanna make sure we make the damn playoffs!

NBA sources indicated that the Celtics, Mavericks, and Nuggets all are prepared to make Cassell an offer once he clear waivers in 48 hours. All three teams have their biannual exceptions available to give to Cassell (a maximum of $1.83 million) while the Mavs have their full mid-level available ($5.356 million) and Denver has $2.356 of its mid-level. The Celtics have spent all of their mid-level.

Cassell would be a great pickup. I expect people to talk about defense and all that, but imo that's an after thought next to the leadership he brings and his capabilities in running in offense. He'll get everyone where they should be and hit them at the right times.

It's no coincidence that anywhere he's gone the teams have gotten much better. Once he left the Bucks, they weren't the same. When he got to Minnesota, he took them from a perennial first round team to the WCF. When he got to the Clippers he made a talented team, which couldn't even make the playoffs before, into a contender.

It is really hard to believe that he would choose the Nuggets over the C's. Although he has Karl in Denver, he would have KG and Ray in Boston, not to mention that Boston has better chances to advance to the Finals.

If Sam Cassell isn't on his way to Boston he sure could of fooled me after the game. Dude almost looked like he was already a member of the Celtics when he came in the locker room. First, he gave Ray Allen a big hug and talked to him for a couple of minutes. Then, searching for his good friend Kevin Garnett, he asked: "Where's Ticket?" A few seconds later he marched directly into the training room and started shooting the breeze with his good friend for awhile. The laughter from the room rang out for a good couple of minutes.

Looks like he's already a Celtic.

Well I can give you a reason he would choose us over the celtics. In the 2nd half of the season when teams really get out their and have to win we beat ya'll Homie.

He's 37. Is he our long term solution at point? I don't think so...

I'm not saying he won't become a Celtic, but that's hardly evidence he's going to become one. He met up with a couple of his old friends and had a good time. There's nothing more to it than that.

I do believe he will most likely sign with the Celtics though.

It will probably come down to what teams can offer the best opportunity (minutes) to contribute. We all know the Celtics need a backup point guard but, remember Damon Stoudamire spurned them as well and took what looks like a lesser role to play with the Spurs. Granted the Spurs are a championship contending team whereas Denver is a playoff contending one but, you never know what Ainge or Rivers are offering in terms of minutes. If it comes down to playing 30 mpg and re-uniting with his old coach versus getting 20 mpg and playing with the big 3, you don't know whats more important to him?

That said, I don't see how he can hurt our situation but, I don't think adding Cassell helps all that much. But he will be a cheap rental and depending on the outcome of our season, one can make the decision on whether to explore him again.

Stoudamire didn't spurn the Celtics. Ainge was interested in Stoudamire, but didn't want to sign him at that time because he was holding out for Cassell. The Spurs offered Stoudamire a contract right off the bat because they needed a pg badly with Tony Parker injured and he chose to go to San Antonio instead of waiting on the Celtics. It looks like Ainge's gamble might pay off.

I dont think Boston was ever after Stoudemire. Sam has been their man all along. This has been in the works for a while.

What do you think - Would Cassell go to the Mavs, and would Dallas actually spend all of the mid level? If not, why not come to Denver? He wants to pursue his coaching career.....this is a prime spot to be a floor leader.

That might be the case but, thats a huge gamble by Ainge. And what if Cassell still doesn't sign with the Celtics after being bought out? Everyone is saying its practically a done deal but, until the ink dries, I wouldn't put that much faith into any player.

The Celtics don't really need a leader. That's one place Nuggets have an advantage.

didn't Sam say that he wants to play under George Karl, and was hoping the Nuggets sign him in the offseason??

anyways... He'll become an instance starter, so that might be intriguing to him.

Definitely a huge upgrade over AC. If we sign him, does that mean Green gets the cut??

Nope, just to the IR. I'm pretty sure we still have a few open roster spots.
