I hope we put all of our focus on free agent point guard jose calderon.

he's a 10 apg, 2.5 TO, 40% 3P FG player.

I could see him fitting perfectly with the team.

PG - calderon
SG - smith
SF - CARMELO KIYAN ANTHONY
PF - k-mart
C - camby

Who said he's gonna opt out? All of the contender teams are stacked up with contracts and no way they'll take on Iverson's. There has to be a trade involved if the Nuggets want to move him. He won't go to rebuilding teams that have cap space (Seattle, Minny), because he doesn't have lots of years left in him.

calderon is bad defender. if you are getting him, you have to get a great defensive sg, and melo has to step up big time.

other than that, i think every team that doesn't have cp3, dwill, parker, billups, nash, and kidd wants calderon. with tj being injury prone, i doubt he even gets to free agency. he deserves more than mid level.

the question is, can the nuggets afford it?

if/when AI leaves...it'll be almost impossible for the nuggets to find a starting point guard in free agency who is a deadly perimeter shooter, is a great passer, and plays great defense.

calderon fits two out of the three descriptions. he'll make the team much better on the offensive end of the court.

a coaching change will help us defensively.

Lol AI plans to opt out this summer to resign a long term deal with us to save us money so we can go after some guys in the offseason, not to join another team... I'm pretty sure he realizes Denver is his best bet for a championship lol.

yeah but he said he doesn't wants the big money because he got enough of it, so there should be enough left to sign calderon for example...

Exactly thats why he's opting out so we can get another good impact player or so, and prolly so we can resign Kleiza. If we get Caldern that would be awesome. If we would have done the Nene trade and got an expiring Jason Williams and say get Artest as well (Which I'm sure it was do both or none) then our salary cap would actually look pretty good, in the offseason after he resigns with us.

AI opting out and resiging with us is a very good thing cuz otherwie we would have to pay him something round like 22 million, which would really hurt us.

I can't see AI opting out after this year unless he gets a minimum of 5-6 years and 65-70 million. He said he wanted to retire at 39. That would save the Nuggets around 10-12 million next season which would be pretty big, but will add more long term. It's interesting to see what happens.

Either way I think he opts out if he can get 5-6 years. To stay with the Nuggets or to be available to go elsehwere (contender). I think AI would be a great fit in Orlando if not Denver.

There wouldn't be enough cap space either way, so it's pointless.

don't expect iverson to sign for 10 million a year. i expect him to sign for the veteran minimum. what's it? 4 million? he wants to help the team and not hurt the team

before the season he was talking like he wants a 6 year deal.
and if he does...he can run along to the celtics. nobody wants to be paying a 38 year old iverson 15-20 million a season.

my guess is they settle on an extension like vc's.

or he just picks up his option year and we deal with it next summer.

If the Nuggets don't make the playoffs, there's no way the FO gives him an extension this summer which will result in Iverson not opting.

If the Nuggets don't get passed the first round, then I think there's a 70-30 chance they don't extend him.

The only way the Nuggets can get Calderon is to make a sign and trade. Even if AI opts out his contract, the Nuggets are still hit with a "cap hold" for his contract until Iverson either resigns with the Nuggets, signs elsewhere or his rights are renounced (essentially closing the door on AI's return). There isn't enough money to offer Calderon and even if there was the Raptors will likely offer him a qualifying offer making him a restricted free agent. They have until June 30th to do it.

The best we can hope for is the price of Calderon goes up dramatically and either he wants to out of Toronto or Toronto realizes they can't pay him and Ford a lot of money. Situations that aren't likely. But even after that, its comes down to offering Toronto something for Calderon, whom at this point seems far more valuable than Ford.
