Rumor: Nuggets May Sign Jones

The Denver Nuggets are considering signing guard Dahntay Jones, averaging 25.3 points for the NBA Development League's Fort Wayne (Ind.) Mad Ants. Jones' agent, Mark Bartelstein, confirmed having talks with Nuggets executive Mark Warkentien, who recently saw a 37-point game by Jones.
The Nuggets soon are expected to sign a prospect for the rest of the season with a nonguaranteed deal for next season, and there are several candidates. A sticking point on Jones is Bartelstein doesn't "necessarily want to take (Jones) off the free-agent market."
The Nuggets have also been looking for several weeks for a prospect to evaluate during the summer and have contract flexibility. One candidate, forward Gerald Green, doesn't seem willing to sign a deal that includes next season.

the thing that i like about him is that he isn't as undersized as some of the other defenders we had a look at during the season. 6-6 is very good in my eyes

i'd sign him because he fits in our athletic lob-pass-waitin-to-happen system too

I dont think this is thread worthy, but arent the Nuggets only going to make financial moves like they only have been doing this year? Bob Jones

What's the point? I don't see him playing in Karl's "rhythm" rotation...

True, but the Nuggets also need some size at the perimeter. It doesn't matter though because Karl won't play him and the Nuggs already have a Jones in Yak. That;'s why I wouldn't like Green, because he's just a poor man's JR. You need different kinds of players, not the same type of players you already have.

This move would make no sense. I know they are trying to do what they did with Von Wafer, but why release Bobby Jones to save money if you are going to spend the saved money to get someone who isn't as good as the guy you released. Like I said, it makes no sense. Plus, GK is on record saying that he is keeping the rotation short.

It's a pointless move if he doesn't sign a non-guaranteed second year.....thats where the only real value would come from. The money doesn't matter, because a prorated contract for four games really isn't ****.....and it's not like he'd get into the rotation. If they can get him to sign for that second year, then it'd basically just be like picking up a glorified TE for around (maybe) fifty grand.

Agreed. Is he with the spurs for the rest of the season or just a 10 day contract. Still like to see him back.

That is the only thing that would make sense about it. Pretty similar to the Wafer deal, but when has Denver ever used a TE? I can't remember us using one and we have had a few. I am sure there has to be one that we have used before.

I am not sure, so I can't answer that. Anyone know? The spurs might try and do exactly what LBurna was talking about with Bobby Jones.

Dahntay Jones? why would you want him? I don't think you need any more people in the roster, just a different mentality and a different coach.

Last year we did it with Wafer and got nothing, year before that we had that point guard that helped us get JR, why not do it with someone as we all know they will not be leaving the bench this year but we can use them for something later.

the mentality is much directed and teached by coaches... but i don't see the nuggets changing the coach
