George Karl is better than ever. That might or might not be a good thing for the Denver Nuggets.

He has his priorities in the right order. He's trying to do it both ways -- be healthier in every sense of the word and still be effective at his job, but I'm not sure it can be done. The more I've been around the highest levels of sports, the more I'm convinced it takes obsessive, warped mentalities to get to the very top.

Karl's been there before.

All GK can think about is himself... I know all the life story about him is touching and it's great he's found that belief to overcome the obstacles in his life.

This is so telling, and a great job by Adande:

So "Karl" will be fine? How about "the Denver Nuggets"? Will "they" be fine?

Karl is the most selfish person... he thinks he's changed to a better man... he's become a better person for himself and his family... but in the same process he's held the Nuggets and their fans hostage with this personality transformation.

In what realm is this attitude acceptable for a professional making millions of dollars a year? To come out, in the media, and blatantly say you don't give a **** about the team you're coaching because of some pseudo-zen bull philosophy?

I'm glad the man has found peace... that's why we need someone new to come in willing to kill themselves to win a championship. If Kroenke is really as close to Karl as all the newspapers, stories, etc. make them out to be, then he should have no problem being friends with him outside the organization-- after Karl's fired.

I am happy for Karl on a personal level, the guy has been through a lot, and would have been doomed for some type of heart-attack or stroke if he kept up his intensity level in the long-term.

That being said, you give me a choice between current Karl and past Karl and/or a coach who would almost literally die to win, I gotta go with the later.

Karl's philosophy is good for him as a person, not so much as a coach.

To not be affected by a huge loss is important....but at the same time you have to admit to what caused the failure and fix it. It's not just, "I'm not affected by this.....that's it."

So what is everyone saying, that nice guys finish last? It is an old cliche' for a reason. I am kind of hoping that he gives JR the minutes he did in the last game, uses timouts the way he did in the last game, and goes with the defense that is working like he did in the last game. I would like to see this team make a nice run.

Even on firegeorge.com the replacement ideas for Karl are no better of an option IMO. Larry "I can't wait to get in and out of town" Brown another Carolina guy, who happens to be good pals with Doug Moe. They tried to become partners and buy the team together once. He would probably hire GK as the lead assistant.

That's what I mean about 'little pissed off' ... you have to keep a clear mind so you can't get down about losses like Seattle, you got to get pissed off. GK has lost his ability to get pissed off completely...not just a little. If he was even a little pissed off we would be better off.

I am not opposed to replacing him, but who do we replace him with? I don't think Larry Brown is the answer, and if the team somehow makes a nice little playoff run why would the FO even consider replacing him? He obviously has a lot of influence with them because he put a stop to a trade we had in place.

I like George Karl and he has without question proven to be a good NBA coach, but it's time for the Nuggs to go in a different direction.

JA Adande is usually on drugs just like Chris Boussard. And I think what he says is positive about Karl not negative. I don't think George Karl system won't work anyways. Allen Iverson is priming, and you have three All-Star calliber players on your starting 5, and you are struggling to make the playoffs.
