(1) Lakers v. (8) Nuggets

Post#1 » by corona » Thu Apr 17, 2008 1:58 am

New Orleans lost to Dallas

that means Denver can't get the 7th seed, and the Lakers are already guaranteed the first seed.....so we have our matchup.

simple thread to discuss the future series before game one happens (probably Sunday afternoon)

.

ac on kobe. :banghead:

I agree I would like to see Diarwa start and still bring Jr and Klieza off the bench. I think we can make this a good series.
Iverson, Iggy, Willie Green, Sammy D, Josh Smith, Rasheed and Ben Wallace, Larry Hughes Garnett, Francis, Lebron, Melo, K Mart, Wade, Amare, Q Richardson, T Mac, DC, and C Webb

Great our best perimeter defenders don't even play for 90% of the season(Dia and good ole bobby jones) and we need them in the playoffs.. I have a feeling JR will get into foul trouble tryin to guard kobe

Here are a few quick thoughts:

JR or Jones should start, but Kleiza will. I guess it's still better than Carter. However, if Kleiza is going to start, his increase in minutes should come at the expense of Carter, not at the expense of JR.

Melo should start off the game guarding Kobe. If he picks up a quick foul. Put Kleiza on him.

Camby should be able to handle Turiaf. Martin and his driving jump hook should be money against Turiaf.

Any time they have a lineup of Radmanovic and Gasol, Camby needs to be on the bench.

I could see Odom's length possibly giving Melo some trouble.

Iverson should be able to get to the rim at will.

It looks pretty good, but:

I am not so sure about this one. It won't be if Melo gets a quick foul. It will be when and how many, and Kleiza couldn't stay with Mahorn. I think you might see Kmart on him quite a bit.

Those of you that think GK is going to use Yak and Bobby Jones in this series are in for a big let down IMO. I hope I am wrong, but he hasn't done anything for months that would make me think otherwise.

Matchups in order from best to worst against Kobe:

Jones/Diawara, JR, Melo, Kleiza, Carter, Martin, Najera.

But of course the latter 4 will see him more than the initial. Go figure.

Damn Damn Damn Byron Scott folded the game on purpose he knows the Mavs are an easier matchup for the Hornets! First I'm very glad we got our 50 wins. But now we gotta face the toughest team in the league in the first round! The only chance we have to win this is if JR starts! He can at least guard Kobe better than Carter. And we all know the firepower he brings. We need that extra firepower to get off to a good start. He must start for us to stand any shot of winning this series make no mistakes about it! And unfortunately idiotic Karl most likely won't start him. SO we will no doubt lose if Carter starts i can gaurantee that!

But if NENE can give us 15 minutes that could also help us alot. He hasn't played for almost two weeks he should be ready to go. i hope to God he has the guts and willpower to play for us we need NENE!

If the Nuggs can defend that baseline 3 that radmonovic kills us with, then they should be in for a good long series. And i like the idea of giving Kobe a bunch of different looks with AC's speed and Yaks strength. But i think jones should guard him, remember what he did against lebron early in the year?

Considering I live in San Diego now this should be a very interesting match-up. Lotta laker fans in these parts.

This series is gonna test us. I can't see the lakers being shut down, too many weapons now. Gonna want to push the tempo, LA allows the 3rd most points a game out of the 8 western playoff teams. Defense will be important but we are also gonna need to flat out outscore them a few nights to win the series.

Lost to the lakers 3 times this year.

I think a couple big keys for us will be, dealing with the officials when Kobe and the Lakers get calls, because they will, we're the nuggs and the officials hate us. And how the hell can we keep AC on the bench? Somebody gonna have to go Celtic Pride on us?

They aren't near as bad as they look. 2 of the 3 games were on the road, and in each of those games, after 3 quarters the game was within 5 or 6 points. I'm not sure what happened in the first game in the fourth quarter but it was very early in the season. Martin was a shell of what he is now. Second game was pretty much a meltdown in the fourth. Third game was without Melo for the second half.

Of course none of those games were with Gasol so who knows how things will shape up. One of the first 2 games though is a must win. But I think that goes without saying.

In one of those games we were killing them in the first half, and fell completely apart in the 2nd half. I think it was the game with the Phantom Choke on Sasha, which should have earned him a nomination for an academy award considering it was in LA and in front of all of those producers.

good thing abut it is that if we beat LA the second round is easier now because we won't have to face Phoenix or San Antonio. we'll face Houston or Utah if we advance to the 2nd round

I don't want to see us face the Jazz on the road if we get out of the first round. Let's worry about getting the 1st 4 wins and then go from there.

This will be a tough series hopefully we don't start carter or else were goners before the game even starts.

Melo/iverson needs to have a good series for us to have any chance against them, hopefully this time around kleiza and jr would finally show up and give us some help from the bench.

Im worried about karl, since his son play for the lakers he better get his head into coaching and make adjustments throughout the playoffs to counter whatever their doing and play carter at most 10 mins.

Martin and camby needs to be active on the defensive end and hopefully melo and ai will play hard nosed defense and not let their men blow right pass them and cause martin or camby into foul trouble, normally we become a pretty good defensive ball club in the playoffs hopefully that trend keep up.

Most of the lakers fans are saying they'll either swept us or beat us in 5 i hope we show them were more then capable of putting up a good series and not just a push over opponent.

As a homer i'll like to say we win in 7 but realisticly it'll probably be lakers in 6, i just hope we don't steal one and lose 4 straight again like in the spurs series.
