As a laker fan, I was wondering this question on sunday during the game. Why does he start over JR Smith or Kleiza? Why doesn't Karl put Iverson at 1, then Smith at 2? From what i've seen this season (especially the later portion of the season) JR Smith has been on fire. Even starting Kleiza against us this series wouldn't be a bad decision as Kleiza has always gave us problems for some reason. I'm not here trying to gloat after the win on sunday or anything. I just couldn't figure out the justification of starting AC over these two guys which eventually had Iverson guarding Vlad Rad, or Luke in the post. I like JR's game, and would definitely start him if I were coach.

I remember at the end of one of the regular season games when Karl was subbing Carter/JR in and out for defense/offense. Carter was about to run to the scorers table to take JR's place, but he didn't realize JR was at the line, so Karl grabbed him to stop him. They were both laughing and rubbing each others heads and then it almost seemed like they started kissing. That's when I lost all hope that Carter would lose minutes, let alone lose his starting job.

We have been wondering the same thing for a long time now thankfully that's about to change. I would prefer JR to start the game because hes a more consistent scorer than Kleiza but at least Kleiza can defend and make some shots sometimes where as Carter can't do either there really is no need for him to play right now unless he is gonna come in for 5 minutes for Iverson. Let's just say i feel better about tomorrow's game. I now believe we have a chance to win with this change in lineup.

I'm just curious, is there anyone who thinks George Karl has done a good job coaching the Nuggs this season? If anyone does think he's done a good job I would like to know why.

Why did Brown start Snow with AI? I think coaches would prefer for AI not to bring the ball up, and play the pg role. He is more of a scorer. AC did have 5 assists in a short amount of time. So with AI playing the point, will Melo still get his?

Iverson plays 42% of the minutes at PG and 43% of the minutes at SG (essentially equal). His turnovers are the same at both, but at PG he averages 9.9 assists per 48 minutes, whereas at SG he averages 6.6 per 48.

And Iverson brings the ball up more than anyone else on the team. Even when Carter is in, him and Iverson split the duties bringing the ball up. If nothing else, he can bring the ball up and pass it off to say JR instead of Carter as soon as he crosses the halfcourt line, so really there is no issue.

As a matter of fact, as far as I know, the only reasons Karl has given is that Carter sets the defensive intensity (yeah right) and he brings a calmness factor to the team (that's because he can't do anything with the ball, so when he grabs it and does nothing, it seems like he's slowing/calming the team down).

because karl sucks. Nuggets lost 14 points when he was in the game. in other words, If carter stayed on the bench where he belonged, we may have won game 1

Karl isn't. In order to get some more size, he's replacing 6-foot-2 Anthony Carter in the backcourt with 6-8 Linas Kleiza, who will play shooting guard while 6-foot Allen Iverson moves to the point.

"We want to start big and that's why I'm starting because we're having some problems down low," Kleiza said. "We have a size issue, and they do a great job using mismatches."

Sunday's biggest mismatch was Lakers center Pau Gasol breaking loose for 36 points. With Karl planning to stick with power forward Kenyon Martin on Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, he's looking for Kleiza, who scored 23 points Sunday, to provide defense inside as well as more early offense.

But there are trade-offs. Fisher said the move hampers the Nuggets' scoring off the bench and Jackson said it affects their ballhandling.

"We'd probably go back to full-court pressure that we like to use, little things that we can do to disrupt their advance of the ball," Jackson said.

You mean transition D on the Lakers' side might be a little slow getting back tonight? Hehehehehe

By starting AC and putting Iverson at the 2 you guys are essentially letting Fisher off the hook. Because then the lakers could have Kobe on AI (which Phil likes and so do the laker fans), and have Fisher guard AC who is not really an offensive threat. By starting Smith or Kleiza then Kobe would have to guard them, and Fisher would be forced to guard AI. Which is a nightmare for him. To me its a no brainer. I would start JR, because he's athletic as hell and can take the ball to the rack and try to draw some fouls on Kobe. And can also light it up from behind the arc. I think he'd be a perfect 3 for the triangle if you guys would like to make a vlad for JR swap?

give us Kobe or Bynum, and u can have JR.

Hmmmm only if he had thought of this I dunnno maybe 4 months ago? Maybe they wouldn't have to be playing the Lake Show in the first round.

If Carter was as good as Eric Snow in his prime, maybe I could understand, maybe. However Larry Brown is a defensive coach and that Philly team he had was solely based on defense and scoring by one man, AI. This Denver team is constructed differently. The Philly team also played in a horribly weak conference that season.
