Nene is the Key

Post#1 » by manchambo » Tue Apr 29, 2008 6:30 am

So I'm toying with the idea that this team could be much better with the players currently on the roster. The only thing that would have to happen (and probably never will happen) is for Nene to get healthy and work himseld into a season long groove.

When you look at what the Lakers have that the Nuggets don't (aside from intangibles) the most glaring thing is a low post threat (Gasol). The only legitimate threat the Nuggets have in that role is Nene, and he's actually been pretty good with his back to the basket the few times he's been healthy enough to play for a stretch.

I think it helps an offense immesurably to be able to initiate simply by throwing the ball to a big in the low post and develop the play from there. In fact, its hard to think of any great teams that didn't have a big-time low post player (I can't think of any other than Chicago).

So maybe all we need to de is keep Nene healthy.

Or maybe we should have figured out a way to get Gasol.

Nene obviously is a huge key, as he proved last year vs. the Spurs....Marcus Camby ties AC for my Waste Management, Lexus, Coors light worthless player of the series award. Atkins over AC would be huge also, but Camby is going to have move to the bench in order to be effective from here on out.

I just wanted to start a thread like that (but i have 0 credit in here, lol), seeing Nene playing you realiaze how much he is important to this team, eighter Kennyon and Camby cant provide post up and defense that Nene plays, other then that, Nene cannot maintain himself helth, Nene is in this league for 6 years, and he was not there for Nuggets in the last four, im very disappointed, im a huuuge fan, he is the best brasilian playing in the game, far away from leandro and anderson, i want him to suceed!

Nene has been a key since he was drafted, that is why they gave him the contract they did, but I personally am growing tired of trying to depend on him and his constant crying.

If he was reliable in any way, I would actually want Melo out on the first bus with AI, but he is not so maybe he should be the one headed out right after AI.

If Nene was dedicated he as all the tools and physical talent to be a very good big man. And in case you have missed it no team outside of the Bulls have ever won a championship in the last 30 years without at least one very good big man.

totally agree.

but i'm tired of 'ifs' and 'next season' with Nene.

there have been countless big men to come through the league in the last 15 years who 'if only they were dedicated' could have been superstars.
after 5 straight exits, i think it's time to move on from the current lineup and go with some players that although might not have the 'name' but have more of a consistent game and can play for 50+ games per season.

i'd love nothing more for Nene to be the reliable big man for our team, but in reality, he isn't.
