AI is not a PG

Please STOP putting in lineups where AI is positioned at PG..he's not a passer..he can play the PG but he lacks the passing skills..It's like making Kobe into a PG..yeah he can get 8 assists a game but it's NOT his game..he's more of a penetrator and needs a defensive PG if the team he's on expects to succeed.
This is the truth...so please stop with the AI as PG senarios
Perfect formula for a team with AI on it.
1. a defensive PG
2. Atleast 2 7'0 players
3. A shot blocker
4. A good jump shooter

He's too hard to build a good team around.

It's not hard..notice Kobe has the exact team i mentioned around him + an extra 7'0 in Bynum.

Let's see....two 7 footers....a defensive pg.....seems easy enough. Because I've actually got a tree out back that 7 footers grow on....its right next to my money tree. And yes, it's hard to build a team around AI.

Baron Davis is an SG that plays PG?
why can't AI do it?

I still think AI and Melo can work together if the team would put some offensive structure into the game plan. Instead of all of the isolation run some pick and role and motion so the ball isn't in his or Melo's hands as much and let everyone on the team that is in the game get some looks/touches.

What others said, and Kobe is a lot taller than AI. So you don't need to worry about the PG's height. With AI, you do.

AI might not play like a point guard, but he's in a point guards body. Its just too hard to find someone who can play effectively in the back court with him. How many point guards in this league can EFFECTIVELY guard SGs? And how many of them can hit open jump shoots consistently enough to keep the defense honest? And how many of them are available?
1. a defensive PG (was AC in there for his offense?)
2. Atleast 2 7'0 players (Do you want them to be tall, or good? I'd rather have Martin and Camby than a couple scrub 7'0 who are only in the league cause they are tall)
3. A shot blocker (Camby???)
4. A good jump shooter (JR? Klieza? Melo?)
C'mon man, if that all it took the Nuggets would have been much better this year, since they have basically everything you say you need to have around AI. If AI can't play point, then he should stop acting like he is a PG (ie. dribbing the ball up the court, setting up the offense, guarding the other teams point guard, dribbling the half the shot clock away every possession, etc.)

do you know how long it took bynum to develop?
do you know how much of a miracle the gasol trade was?
ummm...the lakers don't have 1 good shooter. 1 good shooter alone doesn't spread the entire court...we have smith for example and the paint remains clogged.
the lakers have radmonivic, fisher, vujacic, farmer, and walton (who is about as good as klieza in perimeter shooting). four deadly unselfish shooters. good luck having this inept nugget management acquire one perimeter shooter...let alone a group of shooters to play alongside iverson and melo.

Good points....I don't think there is a realistic way to build around a 6 foot guard that can't pass, and can't defend....and honestly doesn't have much of a basketball IQ. If you put him next to Magic Johnson, and hope the other team has one midget for him to run around with, maybe. But 6'9 point guards that are unselfish, are about as rare as my 7 footer tree in the back yard. Do the right thing Kroenke, chalk up the AI experiment as a failure (cause it is.), move AI, let him walk, don't really care. The core of this team is still young....don't throw another few years done the tube, due to your inablility to put together a front office, or a team....or a head coach....somebody tell me how the f-ck a coach with Karls track record is getting a free pass on this whole deal? The guy tears apart teams, and then moves on.

No **** he's not a PG, but who do you suggest? Anthony Carter?
He's a cancer for this team and it's hard to work around his obvious disadvantages. Putting him at PG is just the lesser of two disasters.

AI can't even throw a f_cking lob pass.....how the hell is he suppose to run the point? I've said it once...now that the bulls have the first pick...offer Camby for Hinrich, Bulls draft Rose....everyone gets what they want. Well except for AI is still sucking us dry from a salary cap standpoint.

It s funny what you say, because the first page of the firum say that...

I am wondering who is the smart head here, you or the guy who wrote the article.
Your name is JR make it rain, since i saw his interview, i was more on JR make it smoke.
So for a guy like you who criticize so much AI, but look like a JR lover, i ll find you this interessant article where Karl stipulated that AI insist with him to give more minute to JR.

How can anyone like a guy that had a brutal childhood and defeated the odds to get where he is today, 5'11, 150 lb frame that plays like his body doesn't matter, gets pounded every night because of the way he plays taking it to the hole and isn't afraid of anything, which is a style that nobody of his stature has no business playing, takes spills and hits the hardwood more than anyone in the NBA and pops right back up, unlike 95% of the NBA pussies who stay down like they just got hit by a mack truck, stays himself and won't change his personality for anything or anyone. He's Allen Iverson, the most unique, influential, dynamic and exciting players to ever play the game. How can anyone dislike the dude? Because he's a liablity and gambles on defense? I watch basketball for entertainment purposes first and formost and the little guy is one of the most exciting to watch IMO.

I like winning....whether I'm playing or watching. I don't care if I have 5 Eddie Najeras out on the floor, atleast I know they'll do what it takes to win games. If you want entertainment thats great, try AND-1....its pretty entertaining. I wanna win, as do most fans of the game of basketball and the nuggets. It's obvious that from AI's career winning pct. before he came to Denver, that his teams struggle to win games, and no matter how fun it is to watch.....I don't see him winning a title. AI is a good one on one playground player, that's never had to change his style due to him being able to score. Unique talent that doesn't fit in Denver.....I don't know how many more years it's going to take before people admit that fact.

I don't know if AI is a PG or a SG, but I'm sure that AI/JR Smith is a very good backcourt (I talk about the Smith of the second part of the season).

I like winning too, but I'm also smart enough to realize that there is much more to winning than 1 player. Something you obviously don't understand.
Iverson is far from the sole problem in Denver. A franchise who hasn't won a thing in forever. At least AI puts seats in the stands to a previous purtrid fanbase and makes the team worth watching. He was the best player all year for the Nuggets if you like to think it or not. It takes a team to win, not one player to carry them on their backs. When will Denver fans start saying they can't win a title with Melo? 0-5 first round exits, what will it take 0-10? I don't think it will be fair to Melo when you all start turning on him when it happens and it will. When will Denver fans start realizing that the Nuggets franchise is a joke for not having a legit contender in 25 or whatever years. Incompetent FO, philosophy and coaches along the way. No, let's just blame Iverson and say you can never win a title with him after 1 1/2 years in Denver and then act like you knew exactly what happened in Philly. Please. Some poepel around here act like the Nuggets are the Spurs and AI is ruining it lol. Get a clue.

Well, last year if AI hadn't been such a ball hog (or at least could have hit his shots) the team gets past the first round. This year, they played a far better team with a coach miles ahead of Karl.
Three years ago, against the clippers, Karl benched Kmart after the first game, so Denver had a team of Najera/Melo/Camby/Buckner?!/Miller.. Clippers were good that year, that line up is pretty f'ing sad. Can't put it on Melo they went out that year.
Denver can win a title with Melo. They just haven't put a team around him that fits him yet. Plus they have a moron for a coach.
And no, I am not laying all the blame on AI. It is more on Karl. Though AI should have ignored Karl and tried to set his team mates up better, since he has the ball most of the time.
