Well if it's 5 years, $40 million, then I'd say that is starter money, but not all-star money. The Nuggets are probably paying him based on how he should produce in the future, rather than paying him on how he produced the last two seasons.

I think he's going to have to score 16 to 18 ppg to warrant the amount of money he's making, not to mention shooting in the higher 30's or over 40 percent from the 3 point line.

It's a bargain compared to what Nene is making the next 4 seasons. Nene will be making arond $11 million a year for the next 4 seasons.

LOL. STFU, you have no clue. He would be lucky to break 5 mill per season.

I searched high and low and wasn't able to find the terms of the new deal. So far it looks like people are pulling #'s out of their....(correction, it's a 3 year deal per DP as previously stated)

He turned down a 3 year extension worth 10 and went unsigned for awhile so i'm sure he got a much larger deal than that. Hopefully it's a deal at 4-7 mil a year. Anything over 8 mil is a stretch imo.

this is great news. I am sure the deal is a little more then they offered him last year, maybe 15-20 over the 3years.

5 yr $40 would be ridiculous and JR would have signed that as soon as the Nuggets mentioned it, and negotiations have been going on for what seems like a month now.

I'll be surprised if it's 5 years, $40 mil.

The good news is that it is a multi-year deal. My biggest fear was that he'd sign a one year deal and be gone after next season.

Was it the 5 year $40 million or 3 year $30 million on sportscenter? either way they have no clue what they are talking about, and never have when it comes to all the Denver teams but especially the Nuggets.

In the end, the Nuggets and Smith found middle ground as he signed a three-year, incentive-laden deal that will include a first-year base salary between $4 million and $5 million.

Not a bad poker move from our FO. Let JR see that his immaturity has scared other teams away, low ball the kid a bit, possibly get a cheap and mature JR for 3 years.

I can really see JR being a reliable 2nd option when AI leaves and we find that PG.
