OT: DNC Talk

Post#1 » by MHZ » Mon Aug 25, 2008 3:50 pm

I realize not everybody is A) political, or B) a Dem, but having such a big event in our own backyard seems to warrant its own thread. Feel free to talk DNC, share stories (especially for those of you who work/live downtown), etc.

The walk through LoDo to work today was pretty crazy. Lots and lots of cops. MSNBC has their political coverage base near Union Station, which I go by on the walk to work. Woo Dan Abrams.

Pretty cool.

To add a Nuggets spin, there was that mention in the Boston Globe about Carmelo Anthony hoping to meet Barack Obama/attend some of the convention (I would assume Thursday).

I don't work downtown any more. Which normally sucks, because I loved working downtown, but not this week.

I did just get back from Cuernavaca Park where I entered the lottery for Rage tickets. Was pretty cool, had a bunch of anti war stuff and a mock cell from Guantanamo Bay. Also got a parking ticket, which is always fun. Any way, hopefully I have more luck in the lottery than the Nuggets do!!

I went down to Cuernavaca Park yesterday to enter for the Rage tickets. It seemed pretty crazy then but I'm sure it was worse today. Other than that, I'm gonna try to stay away from downtown for the most part, it just doesn't seem worth it. Although it is cool to see all this happening right in front of us.

And **** do I hope I win those tickets.

It's really not that bad downtown. Granted, a take a bus into town, traffic was smooth this morning. Joe Biden was randomly on 16th grabbing lunch today, which was pretty cool to see. Personally I really like seeing this kind of stuff up close, as long as it isn't too much of a hassle for me. I think I'll walk around town after work and see some of the sights.

Going to Invesco on Thursday for the Obama speech - I'm pumped.

It's pretty crazy seeing half of the biggest names in Washington and all the big name newscasters in the same arena that i've watched countless Nuggets games in. That speech on Thursday is gonna be amazing, wish I could go....Don't get pepper sprayed though, I had to get sprayed when I joined the navy and I thought I was gonna die. The pain slowly wears off but I was a wreck for about an hour.

Nice, glad you got to go. Did you go on the march afterwords? I won as well (though it turns out it didn't matter since they basically let everyone in). One of the best shows I've seen.

I think Denver did a great job hosting. It was pretty cool having such a major event happen in Denver, I am glad its over though.

I was sitting in the southwest lower section. Your tickets were for a section, but seats were not reserved within that section. Originally I was southeast, so I could see the podium, but literally none of the stage, so we slipped into a different section where we could see everything. It was a great spot, could see everything well.

Probably the coolest thing I've ever been at in person - I'd put the Rockies win in the tiebreaker game last year somewhere close to the top as well, but this definitely topped it. Awesome atmosphere, and seeing Stevie Wonder, John Legend, and others was a nice bonus. The speech itself was absolutely incredible, and seeing it in person made it that much better. Obviously my political views make me biased though.
