Nene Offseason UPDATE

This is an interesting article about nene's condition and some informations about the way he spent this summer.
Denverpost.comCount Nene among those who were steamed when the Nuggets traded Marcus Camby to the Los Angeles Clippers. The irony is that the trade of Nene's best friend on the team has also been a reason for the Brazilian to smile. It was, in large part, a giant leap of faith in him.
With training camp set to start Sept. 30, Nene promises to be ready. He has spent all summer preparing.

"That's why I come in here and go against him, to try to push him a little bit more," Andersen said. "And I'm very, very impressed. It's hard for me sometimes because he's just so strong. He's definitely going to be able to take that center role."

He is not expected to have any more chemo, but will have checkups every three months. His weight has fluctuated because of the chemotherapy, but currently he's at 269.
In January 2007, the Nuggets put Nene on a diet and he lost 40 pounds. He entered the playoffs at 250 pounds, which he later said was too light for his position.

i'd rather have him at 250

Not so fast...K-Mart and Nene always provide great yearly "Healthy and Hungry" stories. Then they pull a hammy or injury some obscure body part that leaves a void once the season starts. The fact that he spent more time in Denver this summer is promising but to pull a quote from entourage...
Johnny "Drama" Chase: Nobody ever wants to believe you're being two-timed, Turtle.
Turtle: How many times have you been cheated on, Drama?
Johnny "Drama" Chase: Too many, Turtle. Too many....

Sounds good, but how long b4 he gets hurt and we run the injury excuse AGAIN? And you guys bitch about ESPN saying we won't make the playoffs. With our coach and constant injuries every year, why should they expect us to win alot of games?

because we've had a crappy coach and a ridiculous amount of injuries the past 3-4 years and have still made the playoffs. why expect different now?

When is Nene and the team going to get it through their **** heads that Nene is healthier and a much better player at 250 then he is at 270. I swear every year either Nene himself or the team comes out and says how he needs to be around 270, I wish one of them would actually put in the tapes of the differences he displays at the different weights.

And we also had a reliable big (can't believe I'm calling Camby a reliable big) to cover for their absence. I like Birdman, but he's a bench player at best. Balkman's IQ is lower than Carmelo's and his jumper is worse than Camby`s.
Unless Carmelo is in God mode the whole year (very possible if he gets the chance, but I doubt Karl and A.I. will allow it) we're not making the playoffs.
Can't wait to see how we do with Nene playing 40 games (including preaseason) and Kmart playing 55 games.

Not to jinx them, but don't forget how a key player goes down in the first game or 2 weeks at the latest.
Lenard
Nene
Kmart
Have been victim to that.

Are we gonna go after Shaun Livingston? Cheap, talented, coming off horrific injury. If nothing else, it fits our pattern....but I think IF healthy, he could help us.
As far as nene, glad to see him not getting fat in the offseason. Maybe that will help him avoid injuries this year.......and I'd LOVE to see AI/JR/Melo/Kmart/Nene starting 5....We'll miss Camby but I think our bench is pretty good....wouldn't mind seeing if we could pick up David Harrison either as another big.

During dinner, Karl and Nene had "a direct conversation with a little anger," said the coach, who let his starting center know he needed to start centering his days on basketball preparation.
"Since that day, I think he averaged four to five days in the gym, which he had never done for us," Karl said. And in the first week of preseason camp, well, "he's been tremendous," Karl said.
There have been glimpses of greatness, said the coach, and many have come during Denver's scrimmages, in which Nene has dominated the low post, occasionally showing off his off-hand finishes at the rim, a nifty weapon for a big man.

I have been thinking that way since his first two seasons in the league. But, once I again I find myself hoping that this year is the year that he can put it together and prove all of the critics wrong.
