Melo: Nuggets Can Win 60 Games

Post#1 » by SnakefromHell » Sun Sep 28, 2008 4:53 am

Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony believes that the team can win sixty games this season.

"We’ve got a chance to win 50 to 60 (games)," Anthony said. "We’ve got a chance to be one of the best teams in the NBA."

Denver was 50-32 last season, good enough for eighth place in the Western Conference.

"Sixty games," Kenyon Martin added. "We won 50 games last year and came in eighth place (in the West). It will take 60 to be in the top three. So, I think so."

Seriously, what's wrong with being optimistic?

Oh no. Please dont tell me Carmelo is on that stuff. LOL. Why couldnt he say the goal was to win the division because if you ask me thats what they need to do. They need to avoid the Lakers and San Antonio in the first round at all costs. They need to at least avoid the top two seeds.
Thats why Im easy easy like Sunday morning.

If Nene is healthy and AI is willing to sacrifice some of his career numbers to be an actual team player, I don't think this is such a huge stretch.

first they should learn to play some defense...

I agree, people seem to forget that not only did the Nuggets win 50 games, many considered Nene our best big prior to the season last year. If they play as a team then 50-60 games is somewhat reasonable.

Because Nene will actually play a whole season, right? You do realize we won 50 games last year and got worse this offseason, right?

Get off his back, what do you want him to say? That if we're lucky we can pull of the 7th or 8th seed and then lose in the first round again?

Maybe he meant to include preseason wins? I would believe him much better if we had a different coach. With Karl it's almost impossible.

You obviously are much higher on Camby then i am, let alone the Nuggets who were willing to give him away for nothing, and all the teams that had the room to get him for nothing but refused, allowing Denver to get the option of a 2nd round pick swap instead of even a 1st rounder.

Agreed, brother. A key part to success is optimism.

I think this is a possibility....Remember, there were about 6-7 games against New York and Seattle etc that we shoulda won, that would have put us in the 55-60 range last year...and to have 50 wins in a loaded western conference with Anthony Carter as ur starting point guard is pretty damn good...i can def see 50+ wins this year...plus now at least our center wont steal rebounds from teammates and wont play at the top of the key.

07/08 08/09
Carter Iverson
Iverson J.R
Melo Melo
Kenyon Kenyon
Camby Nene

I like the 09 lineup alot better then the 08

I actually think Denver can win 50 games but 60 is kinda high. They need to improve on the road if they dont its not gonna happen.

I mean, I guess having a high goal is better than setting the bar too low. Fact is, we heard this last year, and it didn't happen. I for one don't see the team being better than last year - we always have decent sized expectations, only to get them trounced with injuries/general sloppy and selfish play.

I'd be very pleased with 55 wins. If the team starts slow, and Melo criticism gains traction, this thing could get very out of hand, however.

didnt he say that they would win 55 last year?

nothing to get worked up over I just hope he actually shows up to play every possession this year otherwise that prediction will look pretty stupid.

Would you prefer he say they'll be lucky to win 35?

Probably best to not predict anything. Keep all the #'s in the locker room and just tell the media you want to get better as a team, make the playoffs and compete in a series. Can't expect him to make a low ball prediction though, nobody does that.

I'd just assume they don't make predictions. Maybe just let your game do the talking.

Return to Denver Nuggets
