Ruben Patterson and others to camp...

Post#1 » by Powder Blue » Tue Sep 30, 2008 1:23 am

The swingman, who was mad at being benched in the 2006 playoffs against the Clippers and lashed out at coach George Karl, is one of five free agents invited to Nuggets camp, which starts Tuesday, on make-good deals.

The others are point guards Smush Parker and Mateen Cleaves and forwards Nick Fazekas and James Mays. While Cleaves and Fazekas had secured camp invitations last week, the other three didn’t finalize arrangements until over the weekend.

Patterson was pretty bad offensively but he's probably one of the better pure rebounders in the league (if there's such a thing.) Who knows if he'll stick.

Not sure what to say about Smush, he was decent with the Lakers but I don't know if he can have an impact in Denver. Should make camp interesting though.

It could be interesting to see if any of these guys stick around... Interesting group. As far as talent I like what Smush brings, a big defensive minded point guard who can hit the three, but he hasn't been able to do much in the nba recently. Ruben was actually a pretty solid player for us, and then went on to have a great year with Milwaukee. He was even doing pretty well with the Clippers last year before they inexplicably cut him. Hes a really good perimeter defender, big time hustler, and one of the toughest guys in the league. He really could make this team and possibly contribute as long as his attitude doesn't flair, but Im sure things have calmed down if hes coming back to our camp. Fazekus should get a contract as the 5th big.

HAHAHAHA Ruben huh? It's funny to see him crawl back with his tail between his legs. Didn't he trash our team when he left? HAHA I love it. I liked him on this team for a while, but I don't think we need an old 2/3 when we have clearly more talented and younger ones who won't even get minutes. He's just here as a camp filler.

I'm not sold on Smush. He would have to have a pretty impressive camp for us to sign him. One hard headed kid is a big enough experiment.

At least Cleaves and Parker have some size. I think the FO finally learned short PGs and AI don't mix.

Ruben Patterson? I thought he retired. i remember he or someone referred to him as the Kobe stopper. Smush Parker is more athletic and bigger than A.C but he failed with the Lakers. I hope these guys dont make the team but I would take Smush over Mateen any day.
Thats why Im easy easy like Sunday morning.

Your GM is trying hard to change the team's official name to the Thuggets.

Is AC better than Smush? Karl said he plans on AC starting at the 1 with chucky out.

As long as they stay outta trouble off the court its cool. Except for Kenyon Martin. Denver was very soft last year. People dont talk about that much.

Patterson is a good regular season rotation player... but when it comes to playoffs, he's useless because guys just whack him and send him to the line, he can't shoot.

He can't shoot from the floor, he can't shoot free throws. Without open court game, he's useless, playoffs everything is closed.

Patterson's signature move is driving into a triple-team and getting the ball stripped.

I actually wouldnt mind Smush, he has size, decent defensive player and has good range. i would much rather him over AC which you know is going to start next to AI... as for patterson, get that **** out of here..

i'd take Smush defending Kobe/CP3, then Atkins defending Kobe/CP3.
