some seem eager for the story of how i became, so i'll share. if only to clear the air of some misinformation.
i joined realgm that fateful december night when you-know-who did you-know-what. it was actually that night that it occurred to me that forums beyond the local ones i partook in at the time existed...forums like these (go figure).
there was a lot of anti-you-know-who banter going around here, and a shortage of, ehm, pro-denver opinion. a certain segment of the realgm community was particularly pompous towards this matter as well as others.
i grew up in chicago. i'm the age that places me as a youth during jordan's prime. never really liked the bulls though. especially never really liked jordan. i always wished him/them well though, and for that, i ended up picking up common dislikes. hate the cavs, hate the pistons, and boy do i hate the jazz.
i've been a hornets fan since i was a kid. they were in the eastern conference, in the central, with of course the bulls. i knew damn well from living in chicago that the hornets weren't getting past jordan and company (they almost got one playoff game though -- jordan admits to hacking hersey hawkins even).
i was always fond of carmelo. i won several ncaa pools his freshman year at 'cuse, and was relieved that detroit made the epic flop of drafting darko (so i didn't have to start following detroit). then there was earl boykins.
i moved to michigan 5-6 years ago. ypsilanti michigan to start. home of eastern michigan (woop woop). began dating a girl who ended up graduating from eastern michigan. she loved the little guy.
so i was watching a lot of denver. had a soft spot for them since deke and the upset. never stopped being a hornets fan though -- they were just busy recovering from tantrums from mother nature and mothers.
you og's know i've been a rabid hornets homer since i joined up. wander over to hornetsreport.com and wouldn't you know it, i joined there right around the same time too. perhaps it was all part of my devious plan -- having an alibi for years later when a rogue chunk questions loyalty. probably not.
and oh, those jazz fans. a common enemy. i had many hornets-related disagreements with some of their more rigid homers. all i need to say now is "i told you so."
i'm glad ai's gone though. and the crew that came with him (i came just before -- thx). initial excitement for his acquisition eventually soured. i'm happy for detroit though.
where i went? nowhere really. when i first started here, i was newly hired to a job that afforded me a decent amount of time to do...nothing. my post count felt the effects.
that was a couple years ago though; in that time, being a cubs fan has continued to sour me on sports and that job has become my career...it doesn't afford me a whole lot of slack off time anymore (not necessarily a bad thing). when i come home, i have plenty of outlets for relaxation and entertainment that don't include bickering on a gigantic forum with a bunch of anonymous strangers (xbox live has essentially replaced that part of my life).
i'm glad you old-timers got your board back though. it only took what, 2 years?
billups looks good in powder blue though, and i'm glad to see a healthy nene. his jumper looks smooth.
i'm glad i finally ditched comcast though. league pass on directv has a lot more hd options -- altitude hd is usually an option.
