Karl said he wants to see how Smith looks with the starters. When asked if strong Smith showings could lead him eventually to replacing Dahntay Jones at shooting guard, Karl said, "I doubt it."
"Awkward," said Smith, who last started Jan. 31, 2007. "I hadn't started in two years."

What do you expect Karl to say? He has never once complemented JR or said a nice thing about the kid, so why would he start now? To a point much of what Karl has done with JR has in the end helped Jr, but at some point Karl needs to begin to act like JR has been improving otherwise it si only a matter of time before any man, tires of the constant criticism and stops listening, which happens to be the problem Karl has created everywhere he goes.

Roy was a non-factor scoring last night. I expect he'll get involved early tonight.

Can't see us winning this game.........but it would be a spectacular win for us. Not only because it would be a huge statement for our team, but it would be EXTREMELY deflating for the Blazers who have a tough road ahead.
The Blazers face the Hornets, Pistons, Lakers, Mavs, and Celtics in 5 of their next 6 games. Winning on their court tonight will put some serious questions in their head about whether they can compete with us. A young team like Portland thrives on momentum (look at last season), and if we can stop the momentum before it starts we will be in great shape.

Meh, what did we expect? Great effort.
Portland worked for it.

With no Melo they doubled JR every time and he was essentially shut down. Bench kept the game close but just didn't have enough to pull it out at the end.

ah well.
without melo its not the end of the world splitting that pair instead of taking both. (here comes mhizzle)
jr played like garbage. kleiza was great. billups not so much. kmarts offense sucks. its nice to see atkins the primary ball handler in the second unit as opposed to AC.
and houston/utah/new orleans all lost. i can take a little joy in that.

tier 1 - Lakers
tier 2 - Spurs, Hornets, Rockets
tier 3 - Mavs, Jazz, Blazers, Suns
i guess we're in the 3rd tier of the West.

At least we are in the debate.
This game pretty much went the way I expected it to go, so it's not a real big let down game for me. The only thing that I don't understand is how a guy who leads the league in FG% only gets 6 shots on the night. He made the most of those 6 shots though, he managed to get 17 points off of them.
Get the big man the ball, good things will come from it.
JR didn't have one of his better games
Kleiza has been playing very well for a good stretch now
We needed a better contribution from Billups and Kmart
We stopped trapping Roy even though it was working again. I would imagine other teams will get some film on this and Roy will start to see a lot more traps in the near future.
EDIT: Did anyone catch last nights locker room report? After last nights game Kmart was the guy acting like this game didn't mean anything becuase they have to hook up with the same team again tomorrow, which was true. But, he is one of the guys that didn't step up tonight. If you are going to talk the talk, please walk the walk Kmart.

Eh, a winnable game. All things considered, I can't really say I'm terribly disappointed.

When on the 4th quarter your team have Carter, Billups and Atkins on the court, and then you sub out Atkins with Jones, basketball gods wont let you get away with it!
Not bad to split them without Melo, but I saw a winnable game right there.
George, you suck
