Raymond Felton?

Post#1 » by Sauce Boss » Sat Jan 24, 2009 3:39 pm

I have been thinking about it for awhile now that we really need a young PG to develop and play next to Anthony and Nene and hopefully ride into a championship one day. Chauncey is great, no doubt, but he is 32-33 and he wont be able to play at his level forever. I think maybe a Raymond Felton would be a great guy to aquire now considering our needs (he could replace AC and play some backup/starting sg if needed) and be mentored by Chauncey now and possibly reach that talent level that Charollette expected when they drafted him. Just throwing a suggestion out there, but can anyone think of a young pg that we could snap up and turn into a great leader for the long haul?

He'd be great... he's improved this season and could one day be an all star.

It would take JR to get him the way he has been playing for the Bobcats lately. Not sure you guys would give up JR for him. From reading your board JR is in high regard amongst the posters.

The Nuggets can wait till the draft, several PGs will be available in the beginning of the second round.

What they really need is another reliable big man off the bench.

Billups is going to turn 33 this year. He is obviously a very talented player now, but he could go down hill in a year or two. Meaning I'd be all for picking up his future understudy this summer. Who is the guy? For me its Johnny Flynn.

And if Flynn doesn't declare? Or you think he will still be around in the 2nd round?

Only problem with drafting a PG to develop behind Billups, it will never happen with Karl as coach.

I hope the Cats have a nice season next year....then we could (potentially) get their pick, which would probably be between 13-16(it's only top 12 protected next year). Package that with our own pick, and try to move into the top 10...then draft Jrue Holiday(assuming he doesn't declare this year). I like his game a lot, and he seems like a good person too(which is always nice, especially with a PG). It'd be great to have a talent like that with his kind of skills, to learn under Chauncey for a couple years.

If not, there are still a couple point guards I like later in that draft(Walker, Warren, Flynn)....and a lot more then most of the PGs that will be in this years(Lawson, Curry, Collison). I think the 2010 draft as a whole is looking a lot better than this years....but that depends on who stays and who goes as well.

I like Slinky O's idea of replacing Carter with an NBA-tested and Karl-approved understudy. Similarly, it'd be great if the big we get for the playoff run was a young keeper who would be ready to fill KMart's shoes as he starts to fade with age. Because of Nene's versatility, he could be a 4 or a 5 (I'd prefer a real center). Somebody who can rebound, defend and hit an outside shot would be TFAwesome.
Felton may have made himself too expensive as aniloman noted, but Ramon Sessions and CVillanueva (I know he's neither the rebounder or defender I described) might be on the block in Milwaukee. Anybody have a feel for whether they'd fit here and/or what Mil might be looking for in return?

Do I think Flynn comes out this year? Probably. Will he drop to the 2nd round? Depends on how many GMs are mentally (Please Use More Appropriate Word). Actually I see Flynn coming out with a first round guarantee.

I also so some options to pick up a first round pick if the Nuggets decide they want someone.

One example would be the Knicks desperation to shed salary. We take back Jared Jeffries for Petro and Steven Hunter and they include their first round draft pick. Now it won't be a top 3 pick or anything but what if we get lucky and it turns into the 6th or 7th? Even if its just the 11th or 12th somebody good might be available. Well there are a lot of ways I could see us getting into the draft if we want to.

I suspect the 2nd rounder we got from OKC is going to get packaged up. But maybe we could pick up Tim Ohlbrecht with ours. I do hope the front office isn't trigger shy about trading for picks if the right guys declare.

Craig Brackins would be a nice piece long term around Nene. He dumped 42 points and 14 boards on Kansas the other day. Considering the team he's on blows chunks he does very well despite all the attention he gets. Has range out to the college 3 line. He's built well too. Long at a true 6'10

Johnny Flynn would be my prefered future PG and I think he'll be a top 25 pick this summer. I could see Paul Harris in Denver as a 2nd round pick sometime in the future as well. Yea sure I'd like to pick up Thabeet or Monroe or whatever but if the right guys declare the front office should pounce. That also might include Jerome Jordan if he declares. He would be awesome to pick up... especially if he lasts until the early 2nd round. Nice 7 footer who is rebounding and shot blocking well at Tulsa.

i'd avoid Felton right now...

like people said, next year's draft class is loaded with potential PGs... which is where i think we will hit some money (provided we don't trade OKC's 2nd rounder).

Personally, i'm hoping Patrick Mills hits a major slump and slides all the way to us.
