So what do we need for next season???

Yes, I know I will get hated for this as well...but let's face it...The Nuggets are semi-freefallling, and even if they right the ship...the absolute best finish would be Western Conference Finals...which would be pretty good if they could get there...but... right now, I can't see it...maybe lucky to get out of the 1st round again....
Only Chauncey and Nene are a given... K-mart probably because of his contract and health issues. There is almost no way Kleiza is back, Melo could be on the block, same with JR, and Hunter and Balkman make $5.8 of expirings...the TPE, rights to Herville??? don't know if he's any good?
What will make us a legit contender?? I am just trying to have some fun after a frustrating night... please have fun with it and see what you can do....

new coaching system, legit center and a solid bench.
Chauncey, Melo, JR, Nene, Birdman and Balkman is a really nice start, this should be the core of our team.
i could even be swayed to hold on to Kmart (which we pretty much have to choice to do anyway)..but the rest needs to go IMO.
Carter, Kleiza, Hunter, Jones and Karl are the weakest points of our team, get rid of them.

I'd like to see:
Karl gone, unless we make WCF... but even then i'm not so sure. Interview Avery Johnson and JVG.
Anthony Carter, Dahntay Jones, and Jason Hart gone.
Linas Kleiza on the block... hopefully S&T for a 2 guard who can shoot and defend like Azubuike or Raja Bell. i hope to hell we don't overpay him.
I don't mind Petro.
Birdman re-signed.
Draft a young PG with OKC's 2nd.
Do everything to sign Anthony Parker.
So potentially:
C - Nene / Birdman / Petro
PF - KMart / Balkman
SF - Melo / Azubuike (or LK)
SG - Anthony Parker / JR / Weems
PG - Billups / *draftee*

I like where you are going, i would love to add a legitimate draftee to be billups protege. it sucks not having any young players to watch learn and develop. jr is our closest player to that, other than him, we havent drafted any promising talent since kleiza. and i would be more than happy to see him gone.

1st and regardless of what happens with the playoffs, I want Karl gone.
I would trade Kmart for whatever we can get. His microfracture surgeries are only supposed to hold up for about 5 years, and his contract still has 2 years to go. If we could get a good combo guard (even if overpaid) and expiring or non-guaranteed deal for him I would do it in a heart beat.
I think this team needs to start JR Smith, and find a good combo guard as the 6th man, a guy who could hit outside shots and create on offense.
We need to resign Andersen, and keep Petro. If we could find a way to dump Hunter and bring back someone like Elson for the 5th big that would be great.
Use the TPE to find a PF or center that can replace Kmart. I am sure there will be plenty available, and with the money we could save by dealing Kmart it would not kill the team financially.
Draft a young PG to learn from Chauncey, and be the depth that we need at that spot.
If Jones is willing to resign for the minimum or close, resign him to be Melo's primary backup, he is good enough to be a decent defender off the bench.
I would also let Kleiza, Carter, and Hart all go. let them find some other team that are big enough suckers to pay them.
For the last two spots (which would bring the team up to 14 players) I think you find the best guard and big you can from summer league and sign them to develop them throughout the year.
Billups/ combo guard/ Young PG
JR/ Combo guard/ Weems
Melo/ Jones/ Balkman
Nene/ Balkman
new center/ Andersen/ Elson (or other new 5th big)
As for the new coach, I would prefer they get a good coach who is not a control freak. Fact of the matter is that Van Gundy nor Avery Johnson have the best record of winning and keeping their players happy. I do not feel either are what this team needs, instead I would like for the Nuggets to find a coach who can help with their defense, but will let them be somewhat creative on offense, and allows them to run.

spot on Rebel.
couldn't agree more about having JR start. once he has confidence, sky's the limit.
i'm not convinced on D.Jones yet though.
wonder what bobby's up to next year........

I don't really think its time to blow up this team. Time will tell, but they look like a much more cohessive unit then we have seen around here for a while. I'd like to see some minor changes, move JR to the starting lineup. I ilke the idea of an Azubuke type off the bench behind him. If we dont' resign LK, we need to find a suitable replacement for him. Resign Andersen, and look for a fourth rotation big.
Other than that, I think our core of Billups, Melo, K-Mart, Nene, JR is a good one.
And assuming we get out of the first round, Karl's not going any where. No sense in getting your hopes up.

I would really like to see Kleiza and Carter go, and I would really really want to see see fatass GK go. Get a coach like Stan van Gundy. keep the core how it is, and try to trade kmart for shaq. resign balkman, trade up in the draft and get ourselves Ty Lawson.
Chauncey/Lawson
JR/Weems
Melo/Balkman
Nene/Birdman
Shaq Diesel
or keep kmart, i dunno we need james posey or a shane battier type player to play the 3, and move melo to a power forward position. Just a thought.

OK, here's how I see it.
Kleiza, Carter, Hunter, Jones should be gone.
Keep Melo, Billups, Nene, Birdman, KMart, Balkman, JR
Keep the draft pick, get someone that can help us, AND KEEP THEM.
Petro won't be coming back anyway.
Sign some good backups.
Possibly get a better coach that will beat CONSISTENT defense & effort into the players heads.
That should help.
What sucks is that we are so close to being contenders, but really, I think Karl may have to go because he's not really doing it right. He's wearing everyone down due to playing them too much.

Melo, Chauncey, Kmart, Nene, JR, Balkman and Birdman is a good group that actually fits together. They all need to stay, bring Petro back as well.
First and foremost, get Karl out of here. No Karl means no AC or Dahntay.
Kleiza is not going get the money he thinks he is worth from any NBA team. If some European club doesn't offer him big money, I can see him re-signing at a reasonable price. As long as we don't overpay, I have no problem with him coming back. If not, maybe we could sign Anthony Parker.
We have to use that $10mil TPE. I've heard there's a handful of guys the FO have had their eyes on that they think will be available this summer, and can make a big impact.
Then hopefully we move up in the draft and grab a young pg that can learn under Chauncey.
Chauncey / Draftee
Anthony Parker / Jr / Weems
Melo / Balkman
Kmart / TPE
Nene / Andersen / Petro
Fill in the rest with the best guys we can get from the D-league.

I'm just wondering why the defense we saw in the beginning of the season was just a gimmick. They've completely thrown it out the window.
This is a typical Nuggets quarter by quarter: 34 17 33 29
They play outstanding defense for one quarter. They are cheating the game. They stun the Lakers and every single game around it they have nothing left in the tank? Weak.
Some sort of motivation from the bench I believe is necessary at this point. There is some sort of negative energy sucking the life out of this team. This ain't the same team we saw to start out with.

what is everyones obsession with anthony parker, we have 2 great shooting gaurds in the making, I would be patient with what we have at SG, and maybe try developing our players a little more.
drop kleiza, jones, carter, petro, drop anthony carter again. I would really like to work toward signing another veteran who has been in the league a while and has won playoff games.
i would like to see a trade be pulled off for an Elton Brand. turn this team into a halfcourt monster.

? We only have 1 decent shooting guard and that is JR.
Anthony Parker would be that veteran u would want... and he provides what we need in decent defense and the ability to shoot the 3.

While I agree with you on Parker, we do need another two guard that can play both ways, at least until Weems proves he can play.
As for Brand he can stay a 76er, we do not want or need another injury prone big.

How'd his team beat the Nuggets in the playoffs in the not so distant past?

Anyways I wouldn't completely rule Brand out. Just depends on what we'd have to send out.
The obvious first change for me is at head coach. I'd prefer to bring in Tim Floyd with Larry Eustachy and Quin Snyder as assistants along with Tim Grgurich (who stays from the previous group).
I think trading Kenyon Martin is an option. I could see the Chicago Bulls looking for some toughness this off season and they have the pieces to move. Sign and trade Ben Gordon with expiring contract Jerome James for Kenyon Martin.
Next I'd use the Camby trade exception plus a future first rounder to get Rasheed Wallace on a 3 year deal.
I'd use most of the MLE to pick up Anthony Parker.
I'd also assume Linas Kleiza is going to want a little more than the MLE. I'd hope the Pacers would be interested and I'd sign and trade him to the pacers for Jamaal Tinsley (and a S&T with stephen graham if needed). If I couldn't swing that I'd just host an open try-out to replace Anthony Carter

Just kidding AC would of course be welcome back if he was cheap. Other than that I'd bring back the Birdman. Would also consider Dahntay Jones but not if it means overpaying.
Projected Roster
Nene
Rasheed Wallace
Carmelo Anthony
Ben Gordon
Chauncey Billups
Bench
JR Smith, Anthony Parker, Chris Andersen, Renaldo Balkman, Jamaal Tinsley
Maybes: Anthony Carter, Dahntay Jones
Needed free agent signings: Reserve Bigs (examples Elson, Ely, Skinner, etc)
Head Coach: Tim Floyd
Assistants: Larry Eustachy, Quin Snyder, Tim Grgurich

i think tryin 4 Chris Bosh would be nice. maybe even trading 4 Andrew Bynum. i dont think the lakers would do that, but i a huge lakers fan i believe we are better without him. maybe Linas Kleiza, Steven Hunter, 2rd 2009 pick . Lakers maybe throw in Adam morrison
Billups 1st rd pick Ty lawson, Tyrese Rice,???-Tyrone Lue free agent
Parker A.-JR Smith-free agent Bonzi Wells
Melo-Balkman-Sonny Weems-A Morrison
K-Mart-Birdman-Nene
Bynum-Petro
this just free mind thinkin so please dont bash me LOL so your thinkin well what do the lakers benefit well they free up money 2 keep Lamar the goods Odom and may sign key vet-free agent

How can Weems prove he can play if... he never gets any playing time. give him Kleiza's minutes and i can assure you he would produce a lot better, and the turnovers Weems would make would not look as stupid as Carter or Kleiza's. JR smith has really turned into a decent combo gaurd, i defintley like him making plays also over carter.
the only thing about Brand is that well i feel like he would play better in a half court...also i believe he is a winner, what clipper team was it where they spanked us left and right, yeah i was at that game, some guy proposed to a chick and she declined, i believe it was game four? anyways yeah. most depressing day of my life.
but no to anthony parker, there are better players to behad, who still have potential... i would like a javaris crittenton, darius Miles or A BOBBY JONES. or even through draft. where we need help is with our bigs, I think players like Patty o Bryant or ... there are no good big men in this league.

Draft a backup PG/eventual successor for Billups
Re-sign Chris Andersen, Dahntay Jones (only for spot up minutes at SG/SF) and maybe Anthoyn Carter (only as a third string PG)
Sign a back up PF
Not sure about Kleiza...re-sign him if he's asking for more than $4-5M (unlikely), if he is then sign and trade him for depth.
