Great Job Coach Karl

Since we have haters on here...I am going to start a thread that actually appreciate the efforts of the coach...and I know I am probably going to be the only one on here that says anything...but that's fine...He learned to trust the players more, he fought for them more especially Carmelo, he got the focus back on defense. While he is far from perfect, I think he did do a great job taking a team that had only won 4 playoff games in 5 years... to competing very well against a very good Laker team...Thank you GK!!!

How is it hating when we are pointing out the truth about Karl? If people were insulting him, calling him a big fat pig, etc.. that's hating. Haven't seen any of that. Just people being honest.

Wha?!? So he wasn't coaching the past couple of years? Well, actually that's right. Karl even admitted he wasn't.

Nuggets can't be a championship team or a true contender with Karl as a coach. He just isn't getting done. He is a good regular season coach but he just does not have the passion for the game that truly successful coaches do.
Imagine this team being coached by a Popavich type guy. They would win 60+ games.

How can you coach a team when the players don't listen..they party all night and jack up shots all game and play no defense...Popovich would have quit this team last year or the year before... Phil Jackson would have had to go to a shrink... I will not say bad things this year about Karl... He has flippin' earn kudos this year... It remains to be seen if he can win a chip with this team... they were all together for November... Six to seven months and got further than anyone one thought even at the beginning of April... You all are so damn blinded by hate...
Tell me one bleeping coach that could have won more than 4 games in 5 years before this year and I will call you NUTS!!!! IT DOESN'T FALL JUST ON THE COACH!!!!!!
You all might be right...he might not take us to the mountain top or be the coach... but I can't believe the lack of respect that he gets for this year... and the more you keep on with your hate...the more I will defend him until he does something egregious. Right now, I hope Kroenke signs him to a 4 year contract extension...just so I can here you all b*tch and moan.
Face it, you rather have some moron off the street than Karl..and if that's not hate... what is???

I'm sorry, I don't want to bait anyone, but he just doesn't deserve any praise. They didn't even have an out of bounds play! I understand that you can't get the attention of the players most of the time, but please, please add offensive sets and work the refs! This guy has accomplished nothing during his career than make the correct decisions where to coach.

I don't think you are baiting anyone but one person on this board

Seriously...he deserves credit for getting this team to play as a team...as Chauncey does, as Melo does...etc etc... I am not saying you have to like him or say he's great... but you all are way too critical... he does do most of the things you say he doesn't... he just does it a different way than you all like... he was more protective of his players, he trusted them much more, blah blah...I know I am not going to change your minds at all... but it takes a team, he was apart of this team and the players give him credit as well...
Hell, Warkentien won executive of the year... and as you read, nearly all of it was by pure coincedence... does that mean he the greatest or he's the worst.... the truth is he is somewhere inbetween...and I still don't like the "3 headed monster" but I give them credit making the pieces fit much better and finding a way to get Chauncey.
If you want to scapegoat him for everything that's all's preogative....it's just not the truth... and again...he might not be able to get the Nuggets organization a chip...but no one else has come as close.
Thibodeax or Avery or JVG or Eddie Jordan or Scotty Brooks... who says any of them will coach a team to a chip??? Rick Adelman's a hell of a coach..No rings...doesn't mean he's a bum. Jerry Sloan is one of the toughest SOB's and his system usually works...No rings... he's a fighter and a hell of a coach... SVG was named the Master of Panic... he panicked his team passed the MVP and into the finals and most fans will still coin him the MOP... I will get off my soap box because I am wasting my breath... GK deserve some credit for this year.....period

Sorry sportsmike, I just don't think we'll agree on this one. If you could come up with some sort of formula like win shares in sabermetrics for NBA coaches that empirically proves that he won us some of these games, by all means I would back down. Anecdotaly however, these games were all won by the players-- the schemes were poor, and Coach X could have come in here and won just as many games-- Chauncey ran the practices, ran the huddles, ran the offense, and ran the defense. I still respect your opinion, and agree with you on a lot of issues, so I'll leave this as my last post on the subject because we won't solve anything or come to a middleground IMO.

I think it's the fear of trying something different. The status quo is so juicy. Now we're in WCF territory.
Honestly the committment to dfense should have happened in the first Spurs series a few years ago, the improvement on D over the next year or so, made it to the WCF year or two ago, and maybe have a Finals run this season. Just because we are patient with one or two injuries doesn't mean that now that we're healed the coach shouldn't be graded on his first fully healed team performance.
I liked a lot of what he was saying....the work he did put in was commendable in the sense of accomplishment to get to the point we were at. The Lakers suddenly put all the things Karl's team would be tested on at furious, rapid pace, and showed how truly unprepared for rapidly changing strategies Karl's team was.
You teach the jab, you teach the kick, you teach the block, and then jab-kick-block and Karl forgot to block.
If you ask me, George missed the big dance Friday night.

We didn't lose that Spurs series due to defense.... we lost it due to offense, and because of AI continuously jacking up bad shots, whilst JR and Kleiza couldn't buy a single bucket... hence why the FO signed Chucky Atkins.
Infact, I'm willing to say that the defense against the Spurs that series was excellent.

Yes - it certainly was.....but haven't we met the Spurs 3 times in the last few seasons? I'm just saying the process seems to get started a lot slower on things that need work. We go from season to season and when it comes time for the ultimate test, defense is still not effective enough. The requirement always changes (like last season offense), but the adjustment is never made.
Obviously if we get the defense down pat, out offense needs to be able to score in balance. This last game case in point, giving up 119 pts.....an upset would have been....upsetting, but the blowout and a lackadaisacal effort.....it just indicates lack of mental preparation, lack of physical perparation....aand we're talking about the prep needed on a level to beat Kobe and the Lakers, or Duncan and the Spurs.
Those tems prepare and therefore they get through. Not because they are a better team but because they were good enough, and prepared plenty.

The bigger issue was Nene and Melo were beasting and AI would not give them the ball. If he had given the ball up more to those two, Nuggets possibly win the series or more than one game.
Blake, for all the hate he got, was shooting 50% on his threes in the series. He could have given the ball a bit more when he was open.
FO didn't sign Chucky because of that series. His signing was just stupid, a PG who can't play defense to pair with AI.

This is not not acknowledging what the team has done, nor not being grateful about it. But seriously, if you're satisfied with the way the team performed in Game 5 and Game 6, then you're going to be satisfied with losing in 6 games WCF any other year. The way the Nuggets mailed it in the last two games is enough to undo the positive vibes from this team in the first 82 games of season + the first two rounds of playoffs + the first 2 games of WCF and Game 4.
We reverted back to the old bad Nuggets BC (before Chauncey). I'm sure you remember how bad we were, for all the good things this team did for the whole year, it finally gave up and decided to play bad in the franchise's most important moment.
I know you probably live in Denver and think we should be grateful about this performance as the last Nuggets team to make it was 25 years ago. But if you insist on being grateful and never bother to correct and get better, then you're going to be satisfied with another WCF appearance and failure to make to Finals.
I really think Game 5 and 6 mail it in effort fell both on players and coach. If Karl cannot change this, how do we suppose he does it next year vs. Lakers again? Or Portland who is definitely getting better. This year was "Chauncey homecoming" theme. Chauncey, the whole team, the whole coaching staff were energized with Chauncey trade and Chauncey himself was energized too and determined to take his hometown team as far as he can. This is as far as he can bring us, next year is not gonna be better... unless we do some real change... I vote for coaching change although I know it's not going to happen. Next year, people will get over Chauncey homecoming thing, it will be something else that this team needs to get momentum on.

Anyone that has been on this board knows that I say...it don't mean a thing if you don't win that ring!!! To me, it's a true statement...However, I can appreciate where they were in the beginning of the season to where they got to at the end of the season... Game 6 was terrible and I was not happy with that...it was an awful time to have a terrible game and effort, but most have a few in the playoffs...that was Denver's only bad game... game 5 they played well for most of 3 quarters, but shot themselves in the foot...and in the 4th... fell flat for the 1st 4 minutes and that was the ballgame....
For a franchise that has never been to a Finals and hadn't been to a WCF in 24 years...I can appreciate what they did... However, I am not happy, I wanted a parade, I wanted Chauncey and Melo holding the gold ball.
Karl's made mistakes, Melo has, Chauncey has, Kroenke has etc etc... it was a great run and it fell short for lots of reasons... which you all want to blame Karl... I don't agree...but that's y'alls business. He's got one year left on his contract...I know you all will be pissed if he gets and extension... and I bet he does. You all have to remember, he and Kroenke were business partners and friends first.
Just one question...why are you all so high on unproven coaches like Thibodeax or Tim Floyd or some other assistant with defensive credentials??? How do you know they can take a team in the WCF to win a title next year... when most of you complain about how draft picks are unproven or how Euro league players are unproven.... Karl isn't the greatest coach...but how do you know 100% other guys are definitely going to get the results??? Frankly, I be pissed if they fired Karl...they hire Thibodeax and they lose in the 1st round again (with the same group of players.)
I understand your dislike of Karl... he can be smug, aloof, arrogance, disingenous, and bull headed... tell me Phil Jackson, Greg Popovich, and other coaches that have done less than GK can't be the same way. Rick Carlisle, Mike Dunleavy, Mike Brown, and definitely Larry Brown... the list goes on...
I am not happy...I appreciate what they did... but I want a Chip... and if they get rid of GK and get a coach that can get the Gold ball back here next year... Let's do it... but it ain't going to happen...and you all know it. Just like Melo got better, and Nene...hopefully Karl can still get better too... I know you all don't believe it...I don't know if I do either... but since he's going to be next year...you all had better hope too...
