Denver Looking to move up??...

Another source, who coached against the UCLA product, had this to say about Holiday, which should be music to Knick fan’s ears:

“…He’s an NBA ball-hawking defender right now. This talk about his jump shot is nonsense. He can shoot, not as well as Curry, but he can make open looks. He’ll be able to guard the elite NBA point guards because of his strength and lateral quickness. To me, when you talk about Knick needs and debating Holiday or Curry, I take Holiday…”

On another note, we’ve learned that the Nuggets are actively seeking moving into the draft lottery anywhere between 5 and 12. They are trying to capitalize on the point guard- heavy draft so that they can groom one under Chauncey Billups.

Lots going on everybody. Things are starting to really heat up.

This is high risk high reward situation. If we trade someone who's a big part of our success this year (JR most likely), we will get a rookie who will take 2 or 3 years to develop. That means if we're back in contention, it will be after CB retires. But if the guy does not develop and becomes an average PG, we are screwed. I think we should just stick to #34 and draft a PG in there. Have him become a decent back-up PG (much better than AC) and see if we can get a starting type PG closer to Chauncey's retirement.

The FO wouldn't move JR just to get in to the lottery. They would be looking to trade with a team that wants out of there, maybe offering some salary relief or the Bobcats' pick.

That sounds like a lot of nonsense to me.

I'm all about this. It'd be a welcome departure from our typical free agent approach-- I've always believed in home grown talent.

Trading JR would be a huge step backwards. I can't see that happening.

This is a pretty smart move, however. Billups will not be around forever, and we have a pretty bright future with JR, Melo, and Nene. Adding a young PG to take over in 3 years or so is boarderline genius.

If we do, I hope we get Jeff Teague... that guy is obvious damn talented... offense is only a matter of learning his role, but this guy can flat out score. And Billups will rape his brain to play defense. Absolute steal.

Teague >>>> Mills 1000000x

There are several teams rumored to want to trade down or out of the draft to save money.

I have seen stories floating around of the Bucks, Pistons, Wizards, Pacers, and Bobcats wanting to save money and are considering using their draft picks to do it. Another team that is considering moving some of their picks are the Wolves who have 3 1st rounders, and 2 2nd rounders while already having 11 players under contract. I think Denver may be able to move into the top 20 minimum, and possibly even top 12 if they are willing to either take back salary or trade a future 1st.

Detroit is even rumored to want to trade Amir Johnson with the 15th pick, which is not the top 12 they are talking about, but would also help with future trade assets as Johnson expires this next year, or at the minimum Johnson can provide decent defensive depth at the PF slot for a year.

If anything this rumor is good news. It means that the Nuggets are looking at the possibility of spending more money to get players they want and need.

I wouldn't say it's genius, it's just common sense. We need to get a young point guard in here to learn under Chauncey before he gets too old. Everyone knows it.

It's good to hear that we're actually looking to move up for once, but knowing how our FO has handled pretty much every draft since '03 (Melo), I'm not sure I believe it.

j.r. smith is one of best pieces the nuggets have, if they traded him that would be a HUGE mistake.

+1

I would love to see us get Teague, he is a bit selfish at times but if he learned his roll and could learn to be a little better of a facilitator it would be so nice to have another PG that had offensive ability. With chauncey hounding him about defense at 6-2 180 he could be effective. The guy is insanely athletic...

X2 build the bench through the draft

I wouldn't mind seeing the Nuggets snag two first rounders and move up high enough with one of them to draft BJ Mullens, one of the pg's, and use the second on the best available.

I seem to recall the Nuggets looking to dump their second round pick in order to get extra cash? You guys honestly think this Denver front office/coaching staff is going to want a high(ish) draft pick? They've never liked draft picks before, but now that the team has gotten two wins away from a Finals appearance, they will? Come on now...

You are probably right and in the back of my mind I have similar thoughts, but it makes the off season more interesting and it would be a shocker if for some odd reason it were to happen. It would beat the usual Denver has one pick in this coming draft, oh wait, Denver trades all of its picks.......fans please come back next year and try again.

Who would be the guy they target, and who or what do they trade to get a pick? Dallas is rumored to be trying to move up to the 5th spot and willing to throw in Howard or Terry, so I doubt if we can offer Washington a better deal. I think it would be for a later pick 14-20 range, and I think they will target Ty Lawson. Not the guy I would target, but the guy I think the Carolina happy Nuggets would be targeting if they were to move up.

After being so successful this season with minimized salary, while I do think they will spend more money to get the team better, I don't think they necessarily will spend like we did in the $84 mil range.

If you can't count on a significant free agent/ player through trade without commanding a significant amount of money, then the only way you seek a rotation-caliber player is to turn to... rookies.

Thing is Nuggets are smart enough to realize counting a second round pick (34th) to be a rotation player, while dreamy, it's not happening. So they try to move up to snag a lottery pick and I think this time they will keep it. I know counting a lottery pick to be a rotation player is tough enough, but in this economy, you have to adjust.

In other words, I do see us moving up into the lottery considering several teams are looking to move them cheap, and the Nuggets are going to keep it and use it to find themselves a rotation player. If the player turns into a solid player/ star, it's also something that has been taken into account and Wark can look smart again.

Damn it you and your reality check, hell let people dream for a day or two, you know that there are plenty of guys on this board who would trade anybody on this roster for the chance to get a draft pick.

Although I must say that you never really now with the Nuggets they could be looking to get a draft pick if there is someone they truly like and they can get the pick cheep enough, although I think it is much more likely they pick up a young pg that someone else has on there roster and wants to dump.
