Am I the only one who likes Jones?

At least by his value (production vs salary), he's pretty good. I'd rather have DJ at veteran minimum than KMart at his current contract.
His performance in Game 3 & 4 in LA series, his clamp down defense on CP3 in first round. First he plays good D, second he is not boneheaded offensively (forcing stuff), he can shoot corner 3s, he is finally figuring out how to attack the rim (at least from what I saw in Game 3 & 4) or draw fouls.
For another veteran minimum, I'm all for Jones returning.
After all, we see these teams with lottery picks considering taking Gerald Henderson, an inferior/ unproven version of DJ, we should trade DJ to one of these teams who want to take Henderson, and we get really good use of that lottery pick.

I would be fine if Jones stayed for the minimum, after all we need roster filler, and he did a heck of a job guarding some of the smaller/quicker guards around the league, especially against Paul in the playoffs.

You weren't watching the games that well? He did force stuff. He did make boneheaded plays. He was pretty much crap the entire year, the team was worse with him on the floor. Yes he actually did well against Paul. Against Dallas he was crap. LA, well.. better than AC. Still, unless he can improve his jumper so it can be counted on, Denver will be a man down on offense with him on the floor.
But for a vet min deal, sure. As long as Karl plays JR 35 minutes and him no more than 13.

It's not that Jones is a bad player, it's just that he's overused by our coach. I don't mind having Jones in a solid role on this team.

im not sure, but isnt jones is used to guard the opposing teams best wing scorer?
so jones is there for defense, exert all or most of his energy for defense. he'll contribute to offense but he wont be relied upon for offense.
he wont be out there for 35 min, but when he's on the floor his assignment is to guard the other teams sg/sf.
next season he should be coming off the bench. and maybe jr smith can learn to play defense.

JR was playing defense just as well or better than Jones was. Just because our moron coach and the idiots at BSPN decided to call him a defensive player, didn't make him one. His offense just sucked, so they had to give some reason for him to be playing. And it isn't about him using his energy on defense, its about him not being able to shoot. On offense, the other team could just play Denver 5 on 4, since Jones didn't need to be covered.

The guy averaged 28 ppg in summer leagues, now you can score that many against any competition, you know how to score. It's a matter of applying it in NBA games. And competition in summer leagues is underrated, all of them are guys who want to prove they can play in NBA, competition is as good as it gets outside NBA.
And DJ has attributes especially the unteachable athleticism to hang with NBA players. For years Von Wafer walked on water in summer leagues but sank in real NBA games, we thought summer leagues mean no ****, but Wafer proved all of us wrong by playing well this past season. If he's open he can knock down that three.
I am a believer DJ can get better not slightly but considerably, especially offensively. He just needs to get consistent minutes. He was a starter but he was playing with uncertainty. At least J.R. can say he will get 25 mpg consistently every night, with DJ he will play the game's first 6-8 minutes and might or might not play again for the rest of the game. It's a tough situation to get into rhythm offensively and even defensively, let alone make a name for yourself.
From what I saw in Game 3 and 4, he's reading the Lakers defense and put himself in situations to score... that's a trait of an offensive player. I think DJ being this defensive stopper is an overrated statement, although I like what he brings to the table defensively, but because he can be an exceptional two way player (more than Bruce Bowen spot up corner three offense).
Make no mistake though, this thread isn't about favoring DJ over J.R. so don't let your nuts fall NNF, J.R. will still be a starter if it's up to me... but I will definitely (if I was the coach) resign DJ and make him part of our bench rotation and let him bite AC's minutes... I'd say about at least 15 mpg consistently.
