well I disagree with you and said previously in the Nugget Offseason Priorities thread that the Nuggets should extend the qualifying offer. If the Nuggets and Kleiza can't work something out long term (and that may very well happen).... He'll likely be off to Europe.

We have talked Rasheed Wallace in the past. The first guy I'd take of the list would be Marvin Williams Jr. But I doubt the Hawks want to move him and not sure how we'd get him.

I don't like this, we already have a backup SF. I would rather give Kleiza's minutes to Balkman and use this money to fill the hole in our frontcourt.

pickIBL, do you think there's nobody else available that could replace Kleiza?

Only a good move if the Nuggets plan to use him as a trade asset.

out of the list,i only want CV,Parker,Gordon
if we trade LK,we should get a shooter back
if he's gone without getting a shooter back, that leaves us only CB,JR,Melo that can shoot a damn ball

That 2.7 expiring could come in handy in a trade. When his head is on straight he is a decent enough backup.

The Nuggets are still over the cap if they let him walk, and the Birdman is going to take a big chunk of their MLE, so how are you going to get frontcourt help without making a trade?

Of course they are going to give Kleiza a QO, to not do so would be a big mistake as it would make Kleiza an unrestricted free agent. Due to offering the QO the team is allowed to match any offer and can force a sign and trade if Kleiza decides to go elsewhere. If he does not get a decent contract, Kleiza can come back and play for the year, for the $2.7 figure. Which is an okay deal for the Nuggets as we still need his shooting.

One thing I would like to point out though is that Kleiza signing the QO is a bad thing, if he were to sign that then he can reject any trade we make with him as he loses his bird rights, which will make it harder to get a good contract next season.

That is one obstacle with players receiving a QO, but one way around it that does/can entice a player to agree to the trade is attaching a trade bonus to the trade. Not to many players are going to be willing to turn down free cash.

I explained my views on the "Kleiza situation" in the off season priorities thread. But no I don't think Kleiza is irreplaceable and suggesting the nuggets extend the qualifying offer doesn't mean that he couldn't be replaced.

i looked through the last few pages (not very well though)...and could not find what you were referencing.

i'm not trying to attack you or anything, but, i just can not see Kleiza EVER being productive in the NBA on a consistent, RELIABLE level.

isn't this why we let Najera go?
same player, different spot.
now if ONLY we can rid ourselves of Carter.

once we get rid of GK's goons we'll be fine

Looks like the Raptors are after Kleiza

http://thestar.blogs.com/raptors/

An old familiar name popped up overnight as the Raptors tried to dip into the NBA free agency waters.

What I'm hearing from some league sources is the team made overtures to one-time Raptor Charlie Villanueva as well as Denver’s Linus Klieza in the first few hours teams were able to negotiate with free agents.

I don't see anybody from the Raptors worth S&T'ing Kleiza for, either current players or free agents. Toronto probably has the worst and most useless bench in the league.

If Denver is forced to do a S&T with Toronto, make it for a future pick. I like Kleiza, but I don't think he'll ever be useful on the Nuggets.

By saving a few million from letting Kleiza walk, Kroenke might be more willing to take a risk on a larger contract in a trade using the TPE. Idk, maybe thats just wishful thinking.

I wonder how much Toronto is willing to shell out to LK. A double S&T for Parker would be a dream, but I don't think thats very realistic.

Per Wiretap, Toronto misses out on Charlie V., now turning their attention to Kleiza?
Toronto was interested in Charlie Villanueva, but he has now agreed to terms with Detroit.

The Raptors will now turn their attention back to Denver's Linas Kleiza, who they contacted early in the free agent process last night.

Kleiza at times fills a nice role off the bench for this team and as a RFA (since we extended the QO) his future contract doesn't have any impact on our MLE, LLE, etc. Now that the Nuggets have extended the QO they can sit back and wait... and match a contract if they want... or do an S&T if they want.

With Andersen you have a guy wanting the full MLE. And I don't think he's worth it. Because he isn't going to have success against Gasol (or Duncan for that matter). I'd rather get a Euro big plus Chris Wilcox.

Nothing wrong with a little wishful thinking
