Afflalo a Nugget?
by Chris Dempsey on July 10, 2009

The Detroit Pistons are likely looking to trade guard Arron Afflalo to clear cap space to sign another big man and my colleague, Benjamin Hochman, has learned that the Nuggets could be Afflalo’s next stop.

Afflalo averaged 6.3 points per game on 47 percent shooting for the Pistons last season, his second season in the NBA out of UCLA. The 6-5 guard was in-and-out of the lineup as Detroit tried multiple lineups throughout the season...............

I think it would be an okay pickup. I am a new Denver fan, and still a Detroit fan and, I have watched him a lot. He has an improving jump shot and he is a very good defender, he rebounds pretty well for a guard too. He could be a solid replacement for Dauntay Jones.

I has been confirmed !!!

I think this would be more than an adequate replacement for DJ. Let's hope it goes through, and then we can focus on getting another big man somehow.

What do the Nuggets give up in this deal? Part of one of their TPE's to give the Pistons the cap relief they are looking for or what? It isn't much of a rumor, but I like the player and I am sure Billups knows what Denver would be getting in the deal, so maybe he is providing some input.

Nothing to get excited about, but a solid move.

He wouldn't be a solid replacement, he would be a big upgrade over DJ. DJ couldn't shoot and really couldn't play defense. I'd love it if this actually happened. Denver lets DJ go for 2+ a year, and Denver gets someone much better for half the price.

I'd be a definite fan of the move. A nice DJ replacement who can actually hit an open jumpshot. Should help quite a bit.

This would be a great move, I'm a fan of Afflalo, nice spotting Wark, he is mean, DJ is more athletic but Afflalo is a better shooter, and probably defends as well.

Arron would be a very nice replacement for DJ, he has developed as a player and is ready to play 10-15 minutes per game in the NBA...Affalo and Lawson as backup guards looks really nice ! Lot of talent and room for improvement..

This is the best cheapest move.

We have a Chucky Atkins TE which can nab Affalo and Sharpe (i think the Pistons want to get rid of him as well).

The more I read about him, the more I like.

Seriously, his defensive stats are off the charts good.
He gave up 41.2% EFG, and 13.6 PER to opponents.

comparing it to other players:
Dahntay Jones - 58% EFG, 19 PER (LOL that's atrocious)
Kobe - 50.3% EFG, 14.1 PER
Raja Bell - 53.5% EFG, 15.8 PER
Artest - 45.9% EFG, 12.3 PER
Wade - 48.7% EFG, 15.4 PER
Bowen - 40.2% EFG, 13.9 PER

if anything, Affalo is part of the elite lockdown defenders, and can also hit open shots. Would be a huge steal if we can get him for the TE + 2nd round draft pick.

not an ESPN blockbuster but I'm cool with it. IMO realgm gave the Pacers a better grade than they deserved for overpaying for Jones. Afflalo is affordable, hopefully he'll play good defense, and if he can continue to knock down outside shots he'll be a good fit. A roleplayer with the right tools and the right salary. No compliants here.

I love this. It sounds like Afflalo is basically a Raja Bell in the making. Perfect fit.

Yeah I love this too. Affalo is 10x better than Dahntay, and also much cheaper. Would be a great addition.

He's also a no-non sense guy so he can check players showing non-winning-committal acts like goofing and smiling too much. Time to be serious. :)

You're counting eggs people..

May be, not is. Hopefully it is, though.

Snake, I hope you're joking about Afflalo getting in Melo's face for smiling?

Yeah, they have to keep his priorities straight, you wouldn't want to hear his name in the news associated with anything like this:
There was one camper who held a special place for Anthony. Joshua Herrman, 17, underwent a heart transplant June 24 at the Denver-area Children’s Hospital. Herrman, who is from Wichita, Kan., had moved to Aurora’s Ronald McDonald House in February as he awaited a transplant after finding out on his 17th birthday — Nov. 17, 2008 — that he had restrictive cardiomyopathy, a condition in which the heart is restricted from stretching and filling properly with blood. In May, Herrman, an avid basketball player and fan, wrote a letter to the Nuggets saying the Ronald McDonald House had nothing but a toy hoop for small kids. He wanted to know if the team might be able to donate a real basketball hoop. Officials at the Pepsi Center complied, and the Ronald McDonald House now has a new basket compete with a glass backboard. And Anthony invited Herrman to his camp, although he wasn’t yet medically cleared to participate fully. “It was great,’’ Herrman said of the experience. “It was awesome. (Anthony) said thanks for coming.’’

That would be a pretty good move. I agree that he is an upgrade over Dahntay really in every way. I hope it goes through, the Nuggets would be on the way to having a very solid 2nd unit if they do. Still need another big at least though.

Once again, our front office is thinking outside the box to get things done. Absolutely love it. Ild guess that this should be Afflalo for the Chucky Atkins TE and a second rounder. He'll be a great replacement to DJ and possibly/hopefully AC as well as he can handle point guard duties in a pinch.
