Outsider question: Why don't Nuggets want AI?

This guy played so well for you guys. I think he may have had the 2 most efficient seasons of his carrier in Denver not too long ago.
He shot over 45% from the field, lowered his turnover numbers, and still averaged over 25 ppg.
He has allways been a warrior who gave his all.
He got you Billups in a trade, which means he was very valuable those days.

On the other side, Nuggets are looking to move JR to the starting lineup, because you guys have nobody else.
I find this a very very risky move. The guy is a great 6th man, but he does have legal problems, is not very clever either on the court or in private life.

You guys are even going after Sczerbiak, Mason, McCants, Tony Allen, etc to fill the roster... :dontknow:
Why not AI?? :dontknow:
He can be had for cheap. You need a starting SG... He played great on this team.

Billups, AI, Melo, Martin, Nene.
that looks pretty good to me.

Billups is a perfect fit next to AI. The big PG who can defend opposing SGs very well, so AI could defend the point, and not be a defensive liability at all.
AI also likes to run around screens on offense, just like Rip Hamilton, and Billups could find him with great rithm passes.

Do you guys have any idea why there is no intererest in AI from the Nuggets?

Because he is short, cant play defense and cannot create for others...

Hes a terrible influence on the rest of the team and has yet to actually prove that he is a winner of any sort. And this is coming from someone who was a huge fan of iverson prior to him showing up in denver.

I didn't like him on the team after his first half season. Ballhogs and short people do not mix well in this sport. Though he didn't always shot the ball too much, his domination of the ball impeded a lot of the development of the rest of the team. Also, by time he passed the ball, there was like 5 seconds to work with.

I like AI as a person. He was a good guy here. He gave us no trouble, did what he was asked to do, and had nothing but good things to say about our city. The fact is, he's just not a team player. He's one hell of a player, but there is no way a team can win with him having a significant role. He just doesn't get it.

If he could swallow his pride (which he can't) I think he would be a great 6th man for the Nuggets. This will never happen.

We are a pretty successful team at the minute, that's why you haven't seen the front office going to work on a block buster trade or signing. AI is everything that we don't need.

And we do have a starting caliber SG, just not for the first 7 games.

Because of his on court...

The Nuggets have managed to win 50 games in 2007-08 living this way, but it's clear they have hit their ceiling. A.I., Anthony and Marcus Camby are all "ball stoppers," meaning they rarely pass. A lot of times, the Denver offense has consisted of Iverson dribbling right, Iverson dribbling left and Iverson taking a fadeaway. The sorry offense has led to sorrier defense, but Karl's pleas for ball movement have fallen on deaf ears.

and maybe the most dangerous is his influence off the court...

Iverson has been popular but counterproductive in Denver. Key members of the organization say that Iverson has partied some nights until 3 in the morning, and that Denver's two most crucial players -- Anthony and J.R. Smith -- have tried to keep up with him. They say Anthony and Smith look at Iverson with reverence, the same way Chauncey's generation looked at Michael Jordan. So when A.I. says, "Let's go out,'" they go out. When A.I. wears a sleeve on his arm, they wear a sleeve. Especially the impressionable Smith, who has never met a shot he didn't like.

^^Nice article to read, I'm sure most Nuggets fans have read it.

But again, he is considering accepting a $3.5 mil and a bench role. Didn't this guy complain about coming off the bench and say he would rather retire than experiencing it again? It's why most this off-season, 30 teams have been shy offering him a job. Then all of a sudden, he's considering a measly contract as a bench player? And out of all teams, Memphis?

As a bench player, I would welcome AI with open arms. I think also with Billups, Melo and J.R. have come to grow up and know the differences of positive and negative spirits and life. With Billups, AI's influence off the court won't have much impact.

If he's committed to his role as a bench player, never complains, then AI can truly be an asset, especially now we have noone off the bench to score.

Where does this desire to come off the bench come all of a sudden? Did anyone see this coming? Did AI himself see this coming?

Iverson doesn't practice with the team.

I don't think his agreement to accept a bench role is going to last for too long. He'll complain before the season is over if he doesn't become a starter. I think his agent advised him to just say the right thing and hope to beat someone for a starting spot.
