Melo WC Player of the Week

Post#1 » by MHZ » Mon Nov 2, 2009 8:56 pm

NEW YORK, Nov. 2, 2009 -- The Orlando Magic's Dwight Howard and the Denver Nuggets' Carmelo Anthony today were named the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Tuesday, Oct. 27, through Sunday, Nov. 1.

Anthony led the Nuggets to a 3-0 week, averaging a league-best 37.7 points on .536 shooting from the field and .429 shooting from distance, to go along with 7.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists. Anthony opened the season with a 30-point effort in a home win over Utah, and followed it up with back-to-back 40-point efforts in wins over the Trail Blazers and Grizzlies.

Terrible decision.

Why the hell do they give it to a player who can't create his own shot, plays poor defense, can't carry his team, and is feeding passes off Chauncey Billups?

Christopher Reina's recent thoughts on Carmelo and the Nuggets...

Nuggets

Fate: Put LeBron, Kobe or Dwyane Wade on this Denver team and they are more than good enough to win a title, and even though Carmelo Anthony is in that next tier by a margin that isn't as huge as the casual fan might think, it is just wide enough to matter.

Reason To Watch: Would the Nuggets flip Chauncey Billups in a reloading move to be in a better spot when the Spurs expire?

I don't understand the thought process there at all. As far as the LeBron/Kobe/Wade over Melo, whatever. I'm more interested in the "Reason To Watch" that really doesn't make a lot of sense. He acts like the Nuggets are barely a playoff team or something. He also failed to consider that Chauncey may like playing at home to finish his career. Maybe the Spurs should send Duncan to the Nuggets...

To be fair, he's been saying for a while now that Carmelo was a lock to go to New Jersey once his deal expired. That was based on very little evidence, and he was shocked when there were whispers about the Nuggets and Melo looking to get an extension done in the next year or so. I don't take much stock into what he says, because frankly, I think he makes it up.

Chauncey has already gone public with his interest in the Nuggets after his playing days are over, why would that change?

yea I just posted that to give you what I'd call "the other side". Melo still seems to get the short end of the stick. When considering Wade's injury history... If you said hey Pick what would you think about your team having Wade over Melo. I'd say NO THANKS.

I liked how the team went out and got Lawson... I just wasn't sold on him being the future starting PG. I'm currently being sold on that however... for down the road. The team's young core now includes Nene, Lawson, Jr Smith, and Melo. This team is going to be VERY good for a long time just by adding to that young core over time. There is no reason for Melo not to continue to accept MAX extensions and deals... and there is no reason to trade the former finals MVP.

I just have to point out that for a small TPE and a 2nd round pick the Nuggets could bring in Jarvis Hayes right now. That's a cheap short term Kleiza replacement. He will make those open outside shots. Great for floor spacing. Goog size. Why didn't Reina bring up the TPEs if he wanted to talk trade... why the teams starting former finals MVP PG?

Nobody here is surprised, are they?

Offseason and trade deadline moves have become so horribly overrated it's not even funny, and it's due to the amount of business that's devoted to 'round the clock trade/FA rumors. It's not fun to look at a team and say "well, they have these young guys, a camp with Chauncey, so there's definitely room for improvement", when you can point to something tangible like "the Mavs added Shawn Marion. Shawn Marion is good. Dallas will be better."

Same story happens every year at the deadline. Team A didn't make a trade, so they've been passed by Team B, who traded for some random guy. Ask Cleveland if offseason moves automatically equal a better team.

We said all offseason that Afflalo > DJ, Lawson is an upgrade off the bench, having Chauncey for a full offseason will help, and Melo/JR/Nene can all improve from last year. We knew the Nuggets weren't going to fade into obscurity. Give it a little bit, and all the same dudes will be jumping right back on the Nuggets bandwagon, acting like they never left. "I knew that Afflalo trade was the most underrated of the offseason." "I saw big things for this team after their playoff run last year."

i don't think putting d wade on that team makes them any better. if i had a choice between melo or wade i'd take melo without hesitation.

It's great seeing Melo become a man on the court. The last time I saw him play even remotely this well was before that stupid fight in New York years back. I hope those days of making bad decisions are behind him. If they are he will reach that potential most everyone expected from him.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

Return to Denver Nuggets
