Smith won't start right away — he thrived as a sixth man last season with 15.2 points per game — and Karl likes having that hot hand ready to burn opponents' second units. But Smith will play starter's minutes. He averaged 27.7 a season ago, and he played better defense and smarter offense as the season progressed.

So Karl has a quandary. Whose playing time gets trimmed? The coach doesn't have the answer in a sealed envelope. It's going to be a feeling-out process.

Initially, one could have assumed Joey Graham would be the odd man out, but there was Graham in Saturday's starting lineup at Atlanta, because Karl liked Graham's defensive matchup. Anthony Carter, a Karl favorite, played just 7 1/2 minutes in the Atlanta game, while rookie Ty Lawson, matched alongside guard Chauncey Billups at times, totaled nearly 27.

Lawson is the future, but he's already thriving in the present. And there's shooting guard Arron Afflalo, another Karl favorite after just a couple weeks.

"There's going to be a combination of J.R. and Arron on the floor together, maybe moving Arron more with the first unit, I don't know," Karl said.

Nuggets open as two point favorites.

Carrie opens as a 1,000,000 point favorite over Taylor Swift. I like her to cover.

Ahhh, the bulls (my favorite team) vs the nuggets (my 2nd favorite team)

Im really interested to see ty lawsons speed measure up to Drose.
and how jr will perform. he's really my favorite 6th man. but i think the bulls much improved defense will hold the nuggets. But we will see.
im so pumped its nba tv and i dont have to watch some **** stream.

Bulls offense is down but defense is up.

Nuggets offense is up and defense is down. Lets see what happens!!!

Even those who follow the team have no idea. Karl does whatever Karl does.

Most definitely. I just hope it becomes apparent to GK this is finally the right season to start him.

If we don't see AC in the starting lineup......phew.

Latest Denver Post article quoted KMart saying that he'll play, and Karl saying that JR will come off the bench and play 'low 20s minutes unless he has a huge game'.

Also mentioned somewhere that one of AC or AA will start.

FML if AC starts again.

Positive thoughts. It will be AA.

Also, I'm not overly worried about JR's minutes. Unless he's clearly rusty and clanking, he's going to get solid minutes. It's not like they're trying to work him back from injury slowly.
