Hey Nuggets fans, what's your take on Ty Lawson? He really impressed me in his 3 20+ point games with Billups injured, but that's pretty much all I've seen of him.

Presumably having seen him more than me, how do you guys rate him? Who do you compare him to and what do you think his ceiling is?

Also, when is he returning from injury?

Biased but whatever, I rate him as the 3rd best player in the 2009 draft right now (behind Jennings, and Evans). You can look at his numbers in the game he's started in, damn good.

He plays and is a bit like Aaron Brooks/T.J. Ford, except that he has a better bball IQ than them.

You're right about his starting form. In 7 starts, he averages 15.9 ppg (.558%), 6.1 assists and 2 turnovers, 2.7 rebounds and just over 1 steal in 30 minutes, which is pretty impressive. If he could up the assists by 2 and score a couple more points (and build up a rep with it) he'd be pushing Paul and Williams

I think every Nuggets fan loves Lawson so far. Speaking from myself, I had high expectations for him, but I had no idea he would fit in so well so early on. I had no idea he could shoot as well as he has, especially from down town. He's not a great defender, but not the liability you would expect for someone of his size. Very active on the defensive end, and positions his body well. The biggest thing he brings to this team is his spead, something we have been missing for the past few years. Creates matchup nightmares for opposing teams, esspeically the Lakers.

I think he could put up better numbers, but has really accepted his role on the team. I expect him to learn alot from Chancey in terms of intangibles and leadership, which obivously won't show up in any stat except wins. I'm more than comfortable with him as out PG of the future.

He reminds me so much of Chris Paul, right down to how their college careers went. That's hard to say without being laughed at, but I think he has it in him to get up towards that level.

I think he's the second best player from this draft so far(which obviously doesn't include Griffin). Because personally, I'd much rather have him over Jennings. *awaits random Bucks fan to come in out of nowhere and call me a hater*


It's fair to say I am in love with the guy, and can't wait to see him running the show in a couple of years.

He is a shorter, smarter, more patient, more defensive Baron Davis to me.

But he's not at Baron's level yet, if he wants to be that he has to get shots off the dribble at will extending to three point range. Right now, his most reliable shot is from a stand still position.

He is nothing like Davis.


He is also a shorter, better shooting, less fat, not as good in the post Shaquille O'Neal.

I still standby that he plays like T.J. Ford the most. Look up some youtube clips, they're identical except Lawson is better.

He has similar passing and penetrating abilities as Ford, but that's about it. Lawson is stronger which both makes him a better defender and allows him to be much better finisher at the rim, a far superior shooter and incredibly more efficient in general, and in general a better decision maker.

Ultimately, the 3 point shot is what I think really separates him from TJ. Had Ford ever developed that shot he would have been a far deadlier offensive weapon.

What do you guys think his statline will be in his prime?

Is 18/8, 4 rebounds, 2 steals realistic?

Since when has he shown the ability to be one of the greatest passers of all-time? He's a pure pg, but that doesn't mean he's the kind of player who is going to average an unreal amount of assists. Chauncey is also what most people would call a true pg, but he has never been a great assist man.

I think as he becomes more aggressive, he could be a 20 pt scorer in this league, and will get quite a few extra assists off drive and kicks/dump offs...but I doubt he ever averages more then 8 apg.


Depending on the team and situation in he is in, I think his prime year could be about 21 ppg (48% fg, 37% 3pt, 84% ft), 3.5 rpg, 7.7 apg, 2.2 spg, 2.6 to, 35 mpg.

And who ever set their sights to accomplish those goals....not saying Ty's the one to average 12 assists but why set your standards low? Average as many as you can. Ty's got a good toolset and he likes the hard work....we'll see. I'd like him in a year or two to average at least 7-8 apg.

i didn't say he average exactly that number, more that i'd like to think he could achieve those numbers in HIS PRIME. he's got plenty of career left in him and if he's paired with Melo for any stretch of that time, i don't see why he can't be a player to average those types of numbers, give or take a few.

i could care less if you agree or not, or even think he has that potential, but i think he does.
