Chauncey's Career Year

Post#1 » by Ripp » Fri Mar 5, 2010 8:25 am

I recently looked up Chauncey's stats for the year. Quietly, it appears the Billups is having the best year of his career. His per 36 numbers:

5.8 3PA (near career high, per 36), 43.1% shooting
7.7 FTA (career high, per 36), 90.4% shooting
21.5 points on an eyepopping 62.9 TS%!
6.4 assists.

So effectively all he does these days is dish out assists, shoot threes at insane percentages, and go to the line. Basically, amazing numbers at any age, but especially for a 33 year old PG. How long can he keep doing this for? Until 37? I've not watched enough Nuggets games this season to comment on his defense...how is that holding up?
I'm thoroughly impressed. How the heck did you guys get him for Iverson without at least giving up something else of value? Your front office is amazing.

Granted, Billups has had some nice games when Melo was out, he has been having a career year overall. Who would have thought that two years ago? Just another example of how Melo does make team mates better.

What about the guy Denver traded for Billups? He had a career year too, and didn't even come close to that after leaving Melo's side.

No one has seen this even Detroit organization where he was right under their nose. They have pulled a plug too soon on him. His stats are highest in his career but most importantly he brings business like attitude to the table and leads by an example on the court. He is someone Melo really needed to have right next to him so are the rest of the players. Anyone watches him play closely will notice he does so much that does not appear on the stat sheet.

Considering a Nash & Kidd being this effective late in their careers, i think Billups will have 2 more years to play high level ball.

I am just saying this. Detroit trading him this early and throwing his number on AI was a smack in the face for him , even though he does not express anything on that matter. Returning to home town after those type of insult like treatments from a organization he had dedicated himself many years and brought so much success must have drove him to have a will to prove them what they have ignored. He is certainly have a will to succeed and prove himself once again here in Denver.
