Am I the only one who has been dissapointed with Chauncey
In the last month and a half, dont get me wrong he is great and he was great in jan when Melo was out.
I actually think Chauncey has the worst shot selection on our team, its like he is always trying to live up to that big shot reputation. In the past couple games he has taken some of the worst three's I have seen. We can be down by two with a minute left and Chauncey will dribble down court and shoot a 30 footer.
Also I feel that Chauncey bought that laid back, no sense of urgency demeanor to the team, that same demeanor he had when the pistons would be down 3-1 in the playoffs. Everytime I see a Melo quote he is saying "were ok, were not worried about losing" I dont remember him being like that.
I'm not bashing Chauncey or nothing cause he is a great player and he kept us afloat and together when Melo was out, he also changed the direction of the franchise. I just wanna know if I'm the only one seeing whats going on right now.

I'm just trying to figure out what Chauncey's gameplan is. I have a hard time believing "just chuck it" is the only thing running through his mind.

Be careful.... you sound like a lot of detroit pistons fans (pre-trade). Go read their message board before the trade in Nov 2008, they had the very same complaints about Chauncey and look what happened to detroit after the trade.
I'm a pistons fan and bought league pass to see every nuggets game because I miss Chauncey. Chauncey is 33 and has had to be the nuggets second leading scorer, run the point, play the 2 spot, be team leader, be the assistant coach, counsel/mentor JR', carry the team when Melo was injured and now be the coach since GK is ill..... WTF
Where is Nene and Petro they should be scoring a least 30 points/night.
JR and AA are wildly inconsistent on offense....arent they supposesd to be SGs?
Lawson is glued to the bench while Chauncey plays 40 mins/game
Nuggets bench (without Lawson) loses the lead and then the starters have to play catch in the 3-4 quarters
Yes Chauncey does seem laid back but he was the same way in detroit, he just never panics.
BTW this is the first time in 6 years the pistons won't make the playoffs, trading Chauncey caused the collapse of the once great pistons.

Chauncey ain't perfect but no player is. Sure he's in a bit of a slump but with him we got out of the first round, that can't be said with AI and Dre...i'm guessing at least 80% of the teams in the NBA would like to have him starting on their team.

Nuggets get out of the first round in other years, if they play who Denver did last year in the 1st round.

And how did the get to play those teams? Because they were seeded higher...why were they seeded higher?......Probably had something to do with Billups

It's not about whether we have him or not, it's is he playing to the level we know he can play at. Of course we want him here. We want the playmaker not the volume shooter. Billups is best when he hits key shots and gets to the line. 20 ppg is perfect for what we need but if he needs to distribute 10 of those points to other players I think we want to see him do that more.

Well where is the coach? If a player isn't running the set plays..... the coach should call a time out to refocus or sit the player on the bench and put someone else in the game. Chauncey must be doing what the coach has asked or allowed him to do.

The coach doesn't have set plays and views having Billups as someone who can do all that for him.

Coaches need to be deciding the late game plays. Maybe thats the way the play was drawn up.
Great coaching win championships ....not great players.

I know you are a Chauncey fan and thats cool, but chauncey has waived off coach Karl and Melo in late game situations before. I highly doubt the coaches are drawing up plays for Chauncey to launch a 30 ft with 22 seconds left on the shot clock. Chauncey will get a pass though because he will miss the first 2 badly then make the next one.

Noticed that. I hated it when Chauncey waved off Carmelo for the buzzer beater one game. Can't remember what game it was exactly.

Re: Am I the only one who has been dissapointed with Chauncey
I am a Chauncey fan but my second favorite team has always been the nuggets...even when Earl Boykins was the pg. When the nuggets got AI I was estatic ....I thought the team would blow-up in the west.
And when the nuggets beat the Spurs in the first game of that first round series in 2007 playoffs...I was jumping up and down the nuggets beat the spurs for a good 30 mins.
So I have always liked the nuggets and want the team to win. It is on the coaches to reel the players in even my boy Chauncey.

Nuggets vs Cavaliers in Cleveland...nuggets won by 1-2 points in overtime.

Re: Am I the only one who has been dissapointed with Chauncey
Being a leader is doing the right things... although they're not right at the time, it's what's needed. Being a leader is not a popularity contest... when you lead, some people will love and follow you but some will question/ hate your moves. But in a system, you need a leader... and that's Chauncey.
But I have to question his shot selection too at times. I can understand if he wants to take the big shots to live up to his reputation... it's like it's what gets his mojo going. If you take away that "big shot" mojo from him, it's the same as taking away his confidence. That's I think the reason why CB keeps taking those big shots.
But the shots I question are the ones taken in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd quarters at times they're just ugly. But when they go down, no question those shots often are the ones that bury opponents. For example, a 4 pt lead against the Lakers... to make it to 7 pt game is huge. Obviously, we haven't forgot we won in LA with Chauncey lighting it up... we were trailing by 5 pts if I m not mistaken... Chauncey got 3 straight 3s and we led by 4... and he buried two more...
---
Put it this way, Chauncey understands momentum and dagger shots. When they fall we love him and we usually win.
I think by waving off Melo and take the big shots himself, like in that Cavs game, Chauncey understands that's the way how he smartly motivates Melo and lights fire in him... "WTF... I'm the franchise player, and here is the old timer at 33 taking my game winning shots. You think I'm no good to take those shots? I'll prove it to you.". It is good for Melo to become motivated to "show" Billups he can take the big shots as well. Melo knows he can sink game winning shots as he had done many times before Billups came to Nuggets... but a motivated Melo is even more dangerous. For example, Billups took that game winning shot in Cleveland and missed... game went to OT... then in the final secs of OT Billups looked like he's about to do it again, but this time he gave the ball to Melo for the game winning shot. In Toronto, it was also Billups who didn't force the issue and give the ball to Melo.
Chauncey understands this is Melo's team. But to motivate and bring out the best in your teammates, sometimes you just have to do something that other people might not like/ unpopular but they're the right things to do... and that's called "leading".

Chauncey knows this is Melo's team....remember the pistons drafted Darko Milicic over Carmelo in the 2003 draft. ...Start at 3:12

I call the nuggets..... the denver pistons.
1. Chauncey (traded)
2.Melo (undrafted over Darko)
3.Affalo (played for detroit)
4.Adrian D. (played for the pistons in 1986-1989)
Thanks Joe Dumars

With as bad as Dantley's rotations and him trying to work the refs has been, Detroit to have him back as soon as Karl comes back.

Just have the refs play head coach for a day with everything at stake, have AD blow the whistle everytime the opposing team gives up and chucks a jumpshot. Refs would not enjoy that.
