Where will Lowell go?

BOSTON -- 7Sports has learned that Mike Lowell has received contract offers from four separate MLB teams: the Braves, Angels, Cardinals, and Yankees.
A source close to the Lowell side of the negotiations tells 7Sports that each offer is a 4-year contract, worth between $55-60 million.
The Yankees offer includes a request that Lowell play First Base, something the Gold-Glove-winning third baseman does not want to do.
The Red Sox have previously offered Lowell a 3-year contract worth $36 million.
Lowell is now waiting to see if the Red Sox will up their initial offer and try to keep him in Boston, in lieu of these newest offers from the four previously mentioned teams.

I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to look like a complete idiot in case I was missing something.
They have Chipper and Tex at the corners, they don't need Lowell.

Atlanta doesn't make sense because, as was said, they already have two corner IFers and Chipper has said he won't go back to LF. The Cardinals are in the same boat except they aren't too happy with Rolen but with his shoulders, they may be stuck with him. He said he doesn't want to play first so the Yanks are out. The only team he could really go to, in my eyes, is LA. Otherwise he's staying home in Boston. mahalo

Dan Roche from WBZ TV in Boston is reporting that the Yankees have offered Lowell a 4 year deal between $56 and $60 million...

FWIW, Roche broke the Yankees signing of Johnny Damon. He seems to be well connected.
Boston isn't going to go near that price. I think it's between NY and Philly. But anyone who thinks Lowell deserves $15 million for 4 years is beyond delusional. I mean, he'll maybe be an average 1st baseman offensively for a couple more years.

charmer: Congratulations on your promotion and staying with the Atlanta Braves. Are there any truths to the rumor of the Braves acquiring Mike Lowell, and if there is, would Chipper Jones move to the outfield or would he be traded?
Wren: Nothing to it at all!

Let us not forget that Chipper has spent his entire career with Atlanta and has 10-5 rights. I find it hard to believe that he's going to willingly accept a trade from his hometown team and the only organization he has known, nor will Atlanta take that trade for spare parts. I wouldn't throw Coco into the "young player" category. mahalo

I don't know who started the Lowell/Braves rumor but whoever did must have been really out of it at the time. Not only is there no position for Lowell to play on the Braves, they can't afford him. Believe it or not rumor starter, the Braves payroll for next season is rumored to be about $92 million. In 2003, it was $103 million. This isn't the jolly free spending team it was under Ted Turner, this is a team that has had its financial blessing beaten out of it by large corporations. The idea of trading Chipper is also laughable at best. To make room for the Hudson deal, Chipper actually redid his deal and gave up a nice chunk of money. Would he be willing to accept a trade after giving up that money to help the team? I highly doubt it.
