This franchise pulls in around $60M each season, yet only spends half of that on the team.
This franchise makes bundles of money. It turns a wonderful profit. Take out the calculator and add up what they got last year:
$30 million. That's in revenue sharing.
$12 million. That's an estimated local TV deal, according to a source.
$18 million. That's from the national TV deal.

Well, there always complaining they don't pull enough in based off of attendance and all, but they do rake in the $ in other areas. -- That was my point; wasn't expecting a team to spend ALL their money, that's just silly.
Sampson has gone on record twice in saying that he will NOT trade a player that is playing above his contract, no matter the players. Yet, he goes and trades Cabrera? -- If we had a passionate fan base, they'd be calling him out and asking for his head, yet, we don't....
And thats another reason why he does this.

As long as Illitch remains willing to travel well beyond the suggested slot figures for draft picks, Detroit should be able to rebuild their farm system quicker than most realize. Rick Porcello is an absolutely sick pitching prospect. I wouldn't trade him for anyone not in the majors. And Casey Crosby (who recently had to have surgery and will miss the season) is another impressive arm the Tigers acquired in this year's draft and who would've been a definite first rounder had it not been for his salary demands.
