No chance in re-signing him? From what I can remember the Cubs can afford players. Also they just gave Wood a one year deal that could add up to 7.65M. He could leave just as easily as you think Prior would.

I doubt the Cubs will regret letting him go. Farm system is consistently loaded with good young arms...position players is a different story.

Some people have come out and blamed that incident on Prior's injury issues. I didn't mean to lump you in with "those people". His doctor came out and said that it was a long term wear and tear issue, not a one time incident thing. I want to throw it out there in case anyone around here still thought the hit caused his shoulder problems.

Also, didn't the Pods let Giles go? mahalo

The Prior and Wood situations are vastly different in terms of how the fans view them and how the players view the Cubs. Wood got a standing O when he returned this year. He loves the organization and feels he owes them for his injuries, he turned down more money from other teams to stay. Most fans hated Prior even before he left and he blames the team (rightfully so, in terms of Dusty at least) for his injury problems.

Also keep in mind Wood already proved last season he can be a valauble player again. Even if he ends up with another team in 2009 (which I still doubt), he'll help our contending club all year out of the bullpen. Prior will be back mid-season, and with his history even that's far from a given. Prior wanted out badly and wouldn't agree to very reasonable terms with Chicago. There's really nothing more to say.
